The brighter side of lockdown

I suspect you got planning permission for something like that by having a bigger battle axe than the next guy. :P

My uncle had a friend, Captain FitzPatrick, who owned a few of the castles of that style around the area, I 'think' that was one of his.

In the 1970s, I went to see him about them and see what I could glean, in the way of general history, etc.

He was proper bonkers - it was very like actually being in Viv Stanshall's Sir Henry at Rawlinson End film with Trevor Howard*.

He was suspicious that I was a government agent who was going to demand that he rebuild them all immediately.

After two really grim days, weather-wise, today was a vast improvement and what I thought was the last* section of my All Roads Within 5km Challenge was traversed successfully.

I discovered these impressive gateposts.

* I have noticed a short section that I've not done - that should happen shortly, I hope.

Went for a walk down the coast by Stanbury Mouth at midday. Not too far distance wise, but the ascent/descent proved hard.

Seems to me a few more mushrooms have sprouted since I was last in there .... :o

Cracking day for it though .... ;)

When I returned from yesterday's venture, having traversed a section of road that I know that I have never previously passed along, I was confident that I had achieved my goal of covering every stretch of road with 5km of here - then I spotted a bit that I haven't been along for a few years - it's a loop off, parallel to and then back onto the main road, so it is rarely used by anybody not wishing to access premises along it.

I resolved to cover it today, as the weather is still rather nice. I was just discussing with myself how 'nice' the trees along it are when I came across something that I wouldn't have predicted occurring.

An old boy returning from a spin out in his Bentley.

Went for a short walk in the sunshine along the track between the Kingston centre and the old Measurements site whilst awaiting for my COVID test.

Then I took Bee for a short walk along the canal at Great Haywood whilst doing a bit of shopping at the Canalside shop.

Bee enjoyed her Puppuccino drinky too :)

Also found this on the way down to the lake. There is a small steam running into it and it’s about 30m above the level of the lake.

Any ideas what it is?

^ Yes, my understanding is that it was the cesspit for the Brocton Camp.

Wasn't the camp on the opposite side of the valley as per the red markings on this map? Meaning that an element of uphill shit shovelling would be involved.

It looks like the yellow/orange rectangle at the bottom left is the structure I saw.

I thought that's where the photo was taken from. From just lower down from the camp . ( I've walked over a path/ bridge like thing looking like that many times over the years , by the Brocton Pool/ bird hide???)

I went for a walk along the lanes around Hixon today with a friend who lives there.

I hadn't realised how elevated Hixon was and we enjoyed some lovely views across the fields towards Uttoxeter in one direction, Rugeley in another and towards Weston bank on the way back.

I spotted a short section of road within the 5km which has been traversed previously, but not during the 5km restriction period, so that was achieved today.

It is not a heavily used section of the road network.

There is a road which runs fairly parallel to The Outer Limit and about 100 to 200m out into The Outside World - I might risk trying that next.

Enjoying a drop of red.

Yes. Looking elsewhere when actually in Hixon, is usually for the best.
