The pet shop has closed and the building is undergoing refurbishment. The new owner is looking at several options: Italian restaurant, too small I reckon. Continental lager bar! Tapas bar.
Lager bar looking favourite at the moment apparently.

Lager bar? You mean a pub which attracts louts and has football on't big screen?

Or any lager. Tasteless shit for those who aren't manly enough to drink ale.

Lager? When? I've never liked it, always been a cider or ale man.

I thought pretty much everyone who hung about tek-monkey towers I was a lager drinker, certainly always seemed to be Carling cans lying about after a session. Maybe they were all mine!

Well, it's open. Called Mercx after the cycling legend Eddy.
Met friends in there this evening. They've made a cracking job of the place and it was full to overflowing tonight. Am told it's been like it since they opened last weekend.
Won't be top of my list of watering holes as no beers or ciders on offer.
But sure it will be popular with a certain Eccy crowd.
Wish them well, a bit of diversity never did any harm and, as said, it does suit a certain Eccy demograph.

Not a winter bar, more suited to the summer crowd that don't venture out on cold wet nights.
Shame though, brought something different to Eccy.

Is it confirmed that it’s definitely closing?

I do hope not, it will be a great shame. It’s certainly open today, full to bursting with cyclists.

I’m trying to organise something there but wasn’t sure, because of what I’d read here and I don’t like to ask: “Is it true you’re closing?”

Another Merckx Bar has opened in Bridgnorth.

I wonder/hope if there might be some misinterpretation of the situation?
