The GOOD IDEAS thread!

As the title suggests, this thread is to voice out any good idea's for inventions etc.
We started derailing a thread with this so another forumite suggested this.

So far, a 99p coin and a button on DVD remotes for "just play the bloody thing" have been mentioned amongst more crude idea's.

Give us your thoughts, serious or mick-takes - I'm sure the thread won't stay serious for too long anyway!! ;)

One idea I heard was to feed an animal with the herbs/spices you'd like to cook it with...

e.g. feed a pig with sage and onion, and then it will taste (not big-time, but partially, or more than it would have done beforehand) of those things!

Right - Pre-paid fines for minor offences. It should be possible to pre-pay a fine for certain defined offences up to a certain level so that the police and the court sytem is not clogged up with unnecessary detection and prosecution.

How it works - Say you fancy giving somebody a bit of a hiding. You go to the police station, pay for a voucher outlining the level of injury that you are permitted to inflict and then, at a convenient point, you sort him out. Then you call the station and a PCSO pops round to collect the voucher from you. Job done. No wasted police or court time and the fine has already been collected. Most people win and nobody loses - you were going to do him anyway.

A Bluetooth enabled audio system to be fitted to all road vehicles so that inter-driver communication between adjacent vehicles becomes a truly two-way interchange ( not merely with limited hand signals, as at present ). We all have occasion to say things like "Excuse me, Sir, but your intentions are not immediately apparent to me, perhaps you should consult the Highway Code upon your arrival home" - that sort of thing. But, of course, the other driver is not able to explain himself adequately at present. I fully understand that there would be a difficult bedding-in period whilst the protocols were established, but I do feel that it would result in an improvement to traffic flow in the long run.

I actually quite like the sound of that one! Obviously it would be abused unless there was to be included in the design a recorder that keeps recent activity - say for evidence purposes, then at least knowing that many people would kerb their language etc.

I've often thought of a simple LED message sign in the back window, with essential buttons on the steering wheel such as...
ON TOW
THANKS!
SORRY
Obviously the buttons could be just numbered, and then user defined messages programmed in.

You missed
"Race you to the next lights"
"Get off the mobile"
"Your Girlfriends a minger"
etc

Surely modern voice-recognition systems should allow you to have a running LED banner in the rear ( or any other ) window reading out your questions/comments/threats/challenges, etc. Obviously, the colour of the lights would have to suitable for the direction they would be viewed from - thus no red LEDs in the side windows, for example.

Just ask - and your wish will be granted. Except that they seem to be stopping using ones that aren't unnecessary. Oh, well!

I had a really good idea a few years ago about rubbery things to stop flip flops from hurting your toes, but a Dr Scholl ninja was listening and they came out six months later so now I keep my ideas to myself

Didn't the ninjas invent flip flops?

I wonder how much this pointless an unnecessary argument cost the good tax paying citizens of Birmingham. Do people really have nothing better to do with their time than this?

It's probably better that they're doing this, rather than interfering with something that actually matters.

Wow how the hell did I miss this one. Please please please put this into operation, what an attractive system you're proposing! Maybe if you had the voucer and then just staple it to the recipient of the hiding and the police can collect it direct saving even more time!!

Edit: Mixing tenses
