The old Station Hotel, Stafford

This is a shot of the old station Hotel in stafford that stood on the corner of Station Rd, Railway St. & Victoria Rd.
Stafford Mercedes-Benz garage now stands where the hotel was and Victoria Park house (Was Kemely House) now stands where the row of terraced houses were. This picture was taken around 1961.

What a shame they pulled it all down to replace it with the monstrosity that's there now :(

You can just see the top of the church behind - where the Newsletter offices are now, and Great Mills once was.

Did 'Isabel' the little red steam train once stand somewhere near the station, I seem to remember it being somewhere round there when I was a small child

Yes, just to the left of the War Memorial, as you look at the first picture.

That's the memorial on the left here - seen from where the mini-roundabout is now.

My Dad was an Area Manager for Great Mills and the Stafford branch was one of his branches.

It was the best DIY place that we had after the demise of County Woodware - I had loads of stuff from there before it closed - around '84, I would think.

I can't remember when it closed but Dad was Area Manager for them until he retired in 1995. He ended up moving to Devon and looking after all of the Great Mills branches in Devon and Cornwall.
