The Post House in Stafford

Well if the Post House is attached to Barclays Merchant Services that could account for the card problem, as they have had server issues this week.

Been to many establishment that have issues with card machines over the years including BUtler's Bell recently, would be useful to know before hand though :)

I was in Wilkinson's just now, and they were announcing problems with their card machines, presumably to avoid people loading up with stuff that they then couldn't pay for..

Most card machines now use a SIM card, from experience I Know that if your provider has a problem then you suddenly also have a problem, hence if the SIM card in your PDQ machine is provided by O2 then woops! Bad Week. In the past we have had problems with another national provider who had an issue with a mast in the Stafford area. ( Mast of a wireless nature, not off some passing ship on North Walls Car Park!)
The Joys of Plastic & the banks wanted us to get rid of the good old cheque!!!

i've waited a couple of weeks before filing this report, yet here we go;..... We sat down and reading the menu it now appears that steak has been withdrawn from the internet offers however the offer was still heralding that two people could enjoy a bistro meal up to the value of 60quid! impossible without being able to order steak which we enjoyed on our last visit. The girl who was taking the order explained that it was not their (The Post House) fault they used a third party ie Living Social, ZooAsk and they have no control over the content of the vouchers. OK we said but whatever has occurred surely The Post House should honour it and sort the problem out at a later date. No was the response because as customers we don't understand the cost implications due to the high numbers of steaks being consumed using the discount vouchers. Well they will probably understand the profit implications due to the high number of customers not returning to The Post House....... Oh and if you do read this The Post House please instruct your staff that continually addressing customers as "GUYS" gets a tad irksome the tenth time !!!..........

Doesn't that break the terms of the voucher? And surely The Post House approved the vouchers, its not like groupon or whoever just make the stuff up. The Post House are involved, they had the vouchers sold and they took a lot of the money generated from them. Now they have the money, they want to back out of part of the deal? Sounds like they really are struggling, putting the voucher out initially was the first sign but now saying they can't afford to fulfill them....

Had a conversation the other night with a few people who have visited, general consensus was it can be great or **** and you have no idea which til you get there. One woman told me she booked in advance for afternoon tea and had a great spread, yet the couple who came in without booking and ordered the same got about half the stuff. Consistency rules, especially at premium prices.

We noticed last weekend on their online menu that the steaks were no longer part of the voucher offer. Ended up going midweek to use our vouchers, I was very tempted to kick up a fuss and point out that the offer was surely mis sold as it was impossible to eat £60's worth of food like advertised. But as we were seated we were given the a la carte menu, we were surprised by this as the offer was advertised as bistro menu only. A quick browse of the menu and it turned out that you could get your £60 worth if both diners ordered the most expensive dishes off the menu.

Ended up biting my tongue and eating what was on offer and didnt mention the steaks. The food we had was very good so I cant complain, still came out of there feeling a bit cheated. 6/10 from me.

This is actually the fault of all 3 parties here. Resturants and retailers commonly make exemptions from such schemes, so long as they are up front about it there is no issue and The Post House do honour the 60 pound as they have let everyone I know who has used vouchers chose from the ala carte menu when it isn't advertised, you really need to read the conditions on the website of the vouche supplier. Where conditions may apply, in this case it is a lack of steak :) But it is like going to pastiche and getting 2 courses for a tenner, but having to buy side orders to make up a meal.

But the exemption is advertised on The Post House's site but not the voucher scheme site, that is not The Post House's fault or any other retailer, in fact groupon have been wrapped for this due to the number of complaints from customers and retailers. It all boils down to the smallprint again, you should check every voucher you purchase. Groupon were selling vouchers to resturants etc who were no longer part of the scheme, it is up to such businesses what they want to include in these, they are very rarely exclusive.

The Post House didn't have this stated when the voucher was purchased, and once it has sold out there is no reason for groupon to lie. Not like they can make any more money from it after the fact. Seems to me The Post House screwed up, it is them changing the terms of the deal. If they think groupon missold the deal then surely all vouchers are void?

Just to clarify - are the vouchers (I have the Travel Zoo one) valid in The Post House Bistro or Pillar Restaurant?

I assume I have to tell them I have a voucher when I ring and book?

Is it usually busy in the eateries in the week - would we get away with having a (breast fed) baby in pram with us or would it have to be a baby sitter jobbie?

Darn it they make this shizzle confusing.

They've combined them to be the same thing now - which makes much more sense - I just don't think they've updated he sinage

The current Living Social Voucher for the Mercure Stafford South Hatherton House Hotel says "Voucher valid for dine-in only • 10oz rib-eye steak and 8oz sirloin incur a £6.00 supplement" I missed the Post House Voucher so can't comment but I have the Living Social one for The Granary at Weston Park and this has no exclusions or extra charges.

We deserted the social maelstrom that is Eccleshall last night to visit the big city and The Post House using the Travelzoo voucher. So, all scrubbed up we arrived about 5 mins before we were booked in for. Nice friendly welcome from the young lady behind the bar who assured us we had plenty of time for a drink and a wander around and likewise the young chappy who seemed to be supervising tables in the restaurant.
Good pint of EPA and a reasonably priced orange juice whilst we had a tour of the various bars.
Thought I’d check out the steak situation that as previously documented on here and was told no steaks when using vouchers, I pointed out that the voucher was issued by The Post House and that the menu only mentioned voucher or promotional restrictions on the chateaubriand. Second young chap said he’d check with his boss and returned 5 mins later to inform us that it was “company policy” not to offer steaks in promotions. I was tempted to go down the route of whether it was company policy to mislead customers when offering promotions but Mrs Trumpet was giving me sideways glances and after all we were looking for a pleasant evening out, not an argument.
Had a nice table by a window overlooking the street and our waitress, a petite young blonde lady, was properly ‘on the ball’. Chatty without being intrusive and was able to re-assure Mrs T that the chicken dish on offer was boneless and was a form of chicken “tube”.
Scallops for starter were lovely as was Mrs T’s goat’s cheese tart. My lamb main was cooked to perfection and was a generous portion, perhaps some recompense for the steak situation. The chicken was, as described, wrapped in ham and poached, very nice it looked too as confirmed by its rapid disappearing act. Sides were a bit steep, French beans at £3.00 worked out at about 15 pence each, the new potatoes also at £3.00 at about 60 pence each but they were very nice beans and potatoes.
House wine was OK, thought the proper wines were expensive, £90.00 for Brunello (we didn’t by the way!) which we would normally expect to pay about £50.00 for at a decent Italian restaurant. About £38.00 in wine shops when you can find it.
Overall thought the place was really nice and the food was spot on, would happily pay full whack for what we had. We often travel to eat decent food which involves hotels, fuel etc so really it would work out cheaper for us to eat here on the odd occasion
Will definitely be returning.

Just to confirm, would you say that the side dishes were a requirement...?

I.e. do the mains not come with anything other than the lamb/chicken/whatever...
