Because up until recently, younger demographics haven’t been interested enough in politics for a young candidate to poll well. Entirely possible we may see AOC running within the decade though.

It’s also about connections rather than anything else, and “old white men” have had plenty of time and privilege to obtain many, many beneficial connections.

My thoughts are that only older candidates who are very wealthy so can afford to or can get the backing of major sponsors to enable them to run for President.
