Sorry to slightly derail this thread, but if you're looking into booking somebody for one of your gigs next year, Chris, then check out The Zu Zu Men. I saw them in Bristol last week at their music festival. They are a punky, funky, poppy Mumford and Sons type of band, but that is doing them a complete injustice. Highly recommended.

Is The Swan still doing fish / vege / whatever.... night in the week? Couldn't find anything on the website and was thinking of treating the wife tomorrow night.

ditto! my best man and a few others surprised me and mrs. db and treated us to a night in the swan on our wedding day in december.. then a spiffing breakfast the next day, before whisking us off to the airport to pop over to belfast for a mini-moon :)

the room was absolutely fantastic.. cosy, well fitted, four poster bed, etc..

Ditto db! Cept we didn't have a four poster! Had the night & breakfast there after the registry, and a do for couple of hundred at the Universal, now built on :-( . Next day we went home to set up a Markee that my uncle had designed/built & given us for a wedding gift. We had intimate gathhering for close family & friends, outside caterer. Then night in our own bed, then off to Prague for five nights honeymoon. Had been together for over 20 yrs, had three kids, but you don't want to rushinto these things! ;)

My apologies Chris, I was looking on the website for the information and completely missed the boxes on the right hand side. Thanks.

I'm not clear from the Steak Night info though, is the 8 o.z. Sirloin for example a full meal or would I then need to order sides of chips / vegetables / whatever with it at additional cost.

Cheers

i thought the swan was just for really really old people, i might pop in.

Depends on your classification of old people, Chris may argue the demographic that it attracts but my experience is that its a young professionals place during the week, drinks after work place and at the weekend families, by families I would say grown up kids as opposed to nippers. Chris is likely to have data that may either reflect this or dispute it, so this is purely based on my own observation.

The Swan is my favourite drinking destination. I regularly go to the Swan and I don't consider myself to be old. I hope I still fall in the category as a young professional . I'm 33.

I've been to The Swan for 2 meals recently had had 2 very different experiences, so thought I would share them with you all.
Thursday 14/08/14, I went for a birthday meal there, and have to say the food was lovely, the service fantastic with friendly staff where nothing was an issue, the only complaint being had to wait a while for the bill, but as we were sipping wine as we waited, that really was not a hassle. Used my Gourmet Card to get a 25% discount off the meal, no issue at all. Would highly recommend the food and the restaurant from this experience, and have done so.
Sunday 24/08/14. We went for a Sunday morning breakfast in The Brasserie, ordered the food, advised I had a gourmet card at time of paying, which should have given me a 25% discount from the breakfast items. I changed 2 items on the breakfast meals due to not liking them, but this was only at the rude prompting of the server on the till, I was happy to forgo due to being my choice in not liking the items. I was charged full price without the discount, and felt the server was very surly throughout the transaction.I had checked previously to ordering that I was able to use my discount card, was told yes, the server took my card from me, then still proceeded to charge me the full amount. When I sat down, another waitress came and brought our cutlery to us, so I queried about the gourmet card and gave them my receipt, to which all I got in return was a big sigh with a snatch of my card. In fairness she did return a few minutes later with the discounted money back. Then the waitress and another, proceeded to moan very loudly in the restaurant about working on that day, the state of a table after fellow customers and their young child had left. The food arrived promtly which was good, but one look at the food was disappointing, everything seemed to be swimming in grease and just generally not very appetising, and including having received the wrong order on options within the meal.

I would happily reccomend the restuarant based on my first experience, but from now on very wary from the surly morning staff and standard of food in a morning.

The breakfast at The Swan used to be brilliant, every time.

Now it's very hit and miss, when they get it right, they really get it right but just as often it seems to be really wrong.

There is no consistency with the food, there are never two breakfast the same, ingredients are added of removed from those advertised and you don't know what you're getting until it arrives on the table. There are inconsistencies with staff training, there is always an issue when swapping the bottomless coffee to a cappuccino and always an issue with when using a voucher.

Service is often a little half arsed on a Sunday morning, we used to come in a couple of times a month with the in-laws but about 4 moths ago we had 3 consistently bad breakfasts in a row, nothing major but something wrong every time and more importantly the issue not being rectified.

The restaurant for an evening meal is always spot on but we haven't been for a breakfast for a while now.

I don't know why places struggle with breakfasts, it seems so hard to find somewhere that gets them right on a regular basis.

I'm there now, for the vegetarian night. They've got oatcakes with butterbean ragu. And a cycle repair station in the car park.

I think they are wonderful.

Oh I normally rate there highly in terms of afternoon/evening meals, and drinks, however I just feel poor service and poor quality on Sunday let them down
