Ottolenghi book purchased, can I just say only two willing volunteers for my forum about The Swan.....come on folks, come out from behind your screens & keyboards and hit me with some valuable feedback....

Would some of you be willing to meet face to face and act as a consumer panel shall we say, prior to The Swan having a facelift, tell me you loves, hate, gripes and moans are, what we can improve, where we are going wrong, what we should try harder at.

If any of you are amicable to this, I'll even buy you lunch (nothing like some bribery) simply email me and I'll get back in touch in the new year:-

Full marks for responding so promptly and if you introduce some Ottolenghi-inspired dishes, try keeping me away. I am sure some forumites will be delighted to sit on a consumer panel and will give you very valuable, well-informed (forum-ed?) feedback. Others probably appreciate this as a place of anonymity. I certainly do. I don't use it as a place to say anything particularly unpleasant and run a mile from arguments but I do like the fact that I can express MY opinions, not those of the 'work me'. If I volunteered to sit on a panel I'd lose all that...especially as you do actually know me...
Those of us who like to stay behind our screens will happily continue to keep giving you our feedback during 2012 even without you buying us dinner. And based on my introduction to The Post House, I don't think you've got much to worry about in the coming year!

So Dear Forum Member
I Wish You A Happy, Healthy and For-filling 2012

I recently shared the following with our staff & Suppliers:-

Dear Friend Of The Lewis Partnership,
With 2011 drawing to the end The Lewis Partnership has been reviewing the year. Success’s this year including surviving our on-going recession, but also developing our business further.
This year we opened The Dog and Doublet Inn, at Sandon on the 1st April after a complete refurbishment, we now have our fifth property offering a true country inn with eleven bedrooms, restaurant and bar with its unique location adjacent to Sandon Hall.
Greengate Deli has had a superb year going from strength to strength especially with its outside catering to local offices and businesses. The Bear Grill has seen the positive results of a new menu, with a steady growth in a business throughout the year.
The Moat House has gone from strength to strength, with further refurbishment during the summer of our bedrooms and bathrooms, this year six ground floor rooms were refurbished. However the largest project at the Moat House has been the redevelopment of the Restaurant, again we called upon Wedge–Wood Construction who undertook the Dog and Doublet project for us to assist with the refurbishment of the restaurant. The project has seen the conservatory redesigned as an Orangery, with the roof of the conservatory now fully insulated, so warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer, also the project has seen the installation of a new super-efficient air source heat pump based heating and cooling system. New flooring and bi-fold glass doors to the Trussell room add to the overall effect, feedback has been fantastic so far!
2011 also has been the year of social media, if you haven’t noticed we’re on Twitter @themoathouse and facebook/moathouse
2011 has seen its fair share of promotions, notably a reorganisation in the Moat House kitchen has seen James Cracknell become Head Chef, whilst Matt Davies has formalised further his role as Group Executive Chef for The Lewis Partnership. At The Dog and Doublet Inn, Will Frankgate has had a superb year as Head Chef, crowned by the birth this Christmas of his daughter, Luke Stanley has become Operations Manager at The Moat House, having started back with us at the age of 15 – congratulations Luke. Corrinna Till has become Operations Manager at The Swan from her starting position on the bar in the opening weeks of 2002.
Awards are always nice to have, but not as important as regular customers, this year we have had both, including winning Best in Category for The Dog and Doublet Inn and The Moat House in The Taste of Staffordshire Awards 2011.
2012 promises to be bigger and better with it being the tenth anniversary of our ownership of The Swan, our builders hats will be out again as the ground floor is given a complete facelift in preparation for the celebration. The Moat House is a continuing redevelopment and January will see our Colin Lewis Suite transformed with new carpets, curtains and the decorators doing their magic.
2012 will also see us celebrating the Queens Diamond Jubilee in style and it will be our fourth year of catering at Stafford Castle Shakespeare Festival.
Finally a huge Thank You to the 262 members of staff who make up our team & to all of our suppliers who never let us down and who are all part of our extended team.
The Lewis Partnership would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and look forward to working with you for a successful 2012.

I Hope You all Have GREAT NEW YEAR

BEST WISHES

CHRIS LEWIS

i had a gorgeus meal at the swan last saturday, i was there with my choir and some of them were fussy but the staff are always so happy there and happy to bend over backwards for you. the food was lovely - i has a cheese and tomato strudel and the biggest peice of sticky toffee pudding ive ever seen. (i think i could have paddled to france on that thing!) which was in a beautiful butterscotch sauce. and although i only ate 1/4 of it, my mate finished it off :D 2 thumbs up! and the girl remembered who's coat belonged to who at the end! my first meal out away from the baby and it was worth it! 5 stars

I love The Swan and it is my first port of call when entertaining friends in town. I give it 4 stars, and would give it 5 stars if they got rid of that funky electronic air "freshener" in the gents loo!

We went last night for the Sea Bass and Creme Brulee offer.

Started with a cosmopolitan in the bar. I have always found cocktails in the Swan a bit hit and miss.
It didnt start too well as they couldn't find a cocktail menu, but the barmaid used her inititive and passed me their cocktail recipe sheet, and the cocktail itself was very good.

Bruschetta with tomato and mozzerella starter - hubby loved his, I found the mozzarella a bit much personally.
Mains - choice of 4 different Sea Bass dishes - hubby had sesame roasted seabass with chilli noodles, and I had roasted seabass with chorizo and tomato salad - both were amazing.
Creme Brulee was brilliant too - hubby ordered something different at a surcharge as he has never much liked creme brulees, but on trying mine, said he would have one next Thursday when he recons we are going again.

And best of all and amazing £12.50 for the 3 courses.
All washed down with a lovely bottle of Malbec.

Great evening, and confirms to me that its still as good and can more than compete with Post House Brasserie.
I like the fact there is a choice now.

Hello

I will shortly be in my 60's so every penny counts,I met my son in Stafford a couple of weeks ago and we decided to go to the Swan for lunch as it had been recommended to us by my sister who lives in Rugeley. However we were met by a lady at the entrance who just looked at us as if to say"well what do you want"it was very off putting. We went in and wondered around trying to figure out where we were to sit, once seated my son had to go to the bar to ask if this was where we ordered food as there was nothing we could see to give us a clue. The menu was a brown STICKY bent cornered offering which to be honest matched the sticky table. We ordered a sandwich and big chips. The chips a sort of wedge was very nice I have to say and the sandwich was ok.Not 1 member of staff spoke to us it was very unfriendly and I will not be going back,we felt invisible!!!!Oh and I am sorry i forgot to mention my horror as when i asked for salt, the condiment(sauce and vinegar)were brought to the table in a dirty champagne bucket. If someone can recommend somewhere for us to have a meal that actually has customer service and is clean please let me know

Check out the reviews on the out and about section of the forum. For day time food the soup kitchen is a good bet and the bank house has good reviews but I've never been myself

I'm glad Admin is removing the skill point thing from the new site (I know this has been said before)

Chrissy 123 joins the forum. Starts a thread asking for places to eat as her experience of the Swan was not good. And loses two points!
Welcome to the forum Chrissy 123.

Strange that so many were able to give the new Post House a slagging off without points deductions. But have a go at the Swan and...

I have used the Swan to eat and drink many times and around 90% of the time my experience has been good.
I have used the Post House a handful of times now with no complaints.

I'd like to think I get behind all local businesses when I can (not just those obviously in a forum clique) and be able to criticise when they fall below expectations.

Agreed, I like the idea of a thanks/like button but won't be sorry to see the negative side go.

-1 now ;)
