Things to do in Stafford...

I'm going to Stafford University this year and was wondering if theres anything to keep me occupied during weekends and what not! I.e. cinemas, good places for mountain biking etc. Oh and where is the nearest Ford dealership in relation to the uni?

Cheers

Nearest Ford Dealership to Uni is Bristol St Motors. If you follow beaconside rd past MOD camp following signs for M6, keep going (about 2 miles) first roundabout you come to take first left and follow rd to the end Bristol St motors is on the right, entance is a few yards before roundabout at the end, if you miss it just go round again.

tesco, sainsburys and asda all have trolleys. there's always loads of roadworks so you won't be short of traffic cones either

LOL...

There's a crappy cinema and loads of pubs and a couple of nightclubs (also crappy). There's also a pub near the uni, and you couldn't be better placed if you're accident prone: the fire station is right next to the uni and the hospital is just up the road.

Was ST16 most of my life, did a stint in SO15, back to ST16 for a bit and now ST17 for the last 5 years. Don't really get about much!

Avoid the clubs, they suck balls in a bad way. Some pubs are OK, depends on your musical tastes.

You mean the Stafford/Beaconside Campus?

I went there - rocked!

The Union have something on most nights of the week so there's entertainment on your doorstep. If you're musically inclined then there's something on everyday of the week in one pub or another.

Cinema (not great but functional), bowling, new leisure centre coming soon, tonnes of shops, I believe there is even an Egyptology society which I keep meaning to join.

There's tonnes of stuff to keep you occupied if you look for it. We're not great on the club scene tho - I would recommend getting train to somewhere like Brum for that. Tickets are cheap enough.

Alton Towers not too far off and Uni organises cheap trips there. Monkey Forest as someone already pointed out.

Mountain biking = Cannock Chase!!! Plenty of walk and cycle paths about too. There's the old railway lines if you fancy an easy flat ride on a lazy day.

From my own experience though I spent three years of Uni either round a mate's house drinking, or having mates over in my house drinking. Oh, and study of course.

Monkey Forest is only a short drive away. It's like a forest. With monkeys in.
Bad Monkey!

They have a rule that you cannot get within something like 5ft of a monkey - ie stay away from them. But last time I went I couldn't abide by this rule as one kept chasing me. No one else - just me. Park attendents looked at me funny. :(

Had a similar thing at a monkey sanctury down in Devon, they let some monkeys wander around and one came and jumped on my lap while I was sat on a bench. Wasn't quite sure what to do, the keeper just came over and started chatting to me. Strange coincidence, the monkey had the same name as me! (not tek-monkey BTW....)

I'm working on a Kylie Forest - all I need is a hair or a fingernail, then "Bingo", or should that be "Bonza"

Welcome to Stafford, Matchstickslim!

its for all the non-stafford people who use the town to avoid the M6 when theres a smash.

the signs are going up soon to divert all southbound traffic along beaconside, into a giant pile up right outside the fire station where the alleged "by-pass" suddenly stops out.

I was at uni on the Stafford campus too - I don't remember being too bored, you do have a tendancy to make your own fun - but that's often the best!!
