Tixall Road Closure from September 29th

Don't think this has been mentioned anywhere - Severn Trent are digging up the top end of the Tixall Road by Blackheath Lane, starting on September 22nd.

Tixall Road will be closed from the following Monday between St Thomas Lane and Blackheath Lane, diversion via Baswich Lane/St Thomas Lane I believe

Had a letter through the door about it the other day - just popped up here as well:

Worth being aware of if you head up that way

Road closure is now in place at the top of the Tixall Road, between St Thomas Lane and Blackheath Lane - not sure if you can still go down St Thomas Lane...

Tixall Road is nice and quiet, but Riverway was jammed solid when I walked home today - can only guess everyone who normally heads up the Tixall Road is having to go out of town via the Lichfield Road if they're heading that way (or at least, it's not helping...)

I believe that St Thomas Lane is open as usual. I keep an eye on roadworks in the area to update Waze (Sat nav app)

That's what I thought but it has been turned, without any warning whatsoever and without any signage that I could see until I got there into a one way, from Baswich to Tixall Road only.

It might say one way, but I saw a car driving the other way down there yesterday evening! Prepare for chaos, and it'll be interesting to see how the works on Milford Road impact traffic when they start later this year on that section...

Ah, it does appear that there's traffic signals there. Due to be gone on 17th October, whilst Tixal Road is scheduled to be closed until the new year.

Can anyone clarify for me. Going from Baswich to Stafford Town you can go left into St Thomas Lane from Baswich Lane but it's one way so I can only go left. On the way home from Stafford to Baswich it seems that I couldn't carry on up Tiaxall Road past St Thomas Lane to the traffic lights at the Crem and turn right into Blackheath Lane to go back to Baswich down Baswich Lane. It said road closed. So is that correct that I can't go up the Tixall road?
Thanks everyone.

That's correct yes

As it stands, you can come along St Thomas' Lane in the Baswich Lane>Tixall Road direction, but you can't go down it in the Tixall Road>Baswich Lane direction. The Tixall Road is also completely closed between St Thomas' Lane and the traffic lights

You can only carry on down the Tixall Road heading out of town beyond Wolseley Road if you're heading into Kensington Drive - you can't turn right into St Thomas' Lane or carry straight on down the Tixall Road towards the crem

I have looked at the sign at the Baswich end of St Thomas' Lane and it says Perkins HGV and Buses ONLY ... so does that mean cars can't use it! I went down St Thomas' on Saturday evening (about 8:15) but every time I have been passed recently not many cars are going that way!

There's a few ambiguous signs about - I've seen a bloke trying the turn round with a caravan on Riverway because of this one. https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=st...id=rhQyMHee42WbjtLO9iuuoQ&cbp=12,92.04,,2,0.5

Drove past the farm end of St Thomas' Lane just and the signs say one way, road closed and access to frontages only. Decided not to chance it in the end and carried on to the Weston Road!

The whole thing is a wretched mess, and in the past couple of weeks the roads seem to be grinding to a halt. From tomorrow it can only get worse...

Cars aren't allowed according to the signage - except for access - but there is only one house on that stretch of road so technically only cars visiting that house are allowed.

The house owner is now suddenly my best friend ;)

Anybody got any idea what the police could/would do if they stopped you after you had driven along St Thomas' Lane?

I actually saw a car drive along St Thomas' Lane the wrong way on Monday at about 5pm ... only the wrong way according to the (temporary) signs, but is it an offence?
