... a left-handed Lidl shop.

The entire thing is a mirror image of a 'real' Lidl shop - even the checkout belts are on the other side of the queueing line.

It's all down to the shape of the site dictating that the loading bay had to be on the right, but it was most disconcerting,.

Ooooh I can't unload on a left handed till! I get laughed at in Sainsburys, but it just doesn't feel right if it's 'the wrong side'..........

250,000th poster!
When I went to the shop I stared at every member of staff's name badge for far too long, hoping one would say littleme.
I have a Christmas name, fortunately we didn't have to use them this year.... Also you are probably only going to get to speak to me if you have a problem or need help, or if you track me down like @Glam does...

Ah, now I know where to find you. I have only been in that shop about twice in the last 5 years but I'll make more of an effort.

If I can't work opposite 'The lovely Tina', then I want have a go on the bing bongs, like the posh bird does.
Except I'd do it like Gladys Pugh in Hi-De-Hi!

... an opened packet of ginger nuts.

I decided to risk one anyway.

It wasn't ideal.

I looked at the date.

March last year.

Mmm...

With the warmer weather here, the oven in the range has been running at around 85°C all day.

I emptied them out onto a Pyrex plate in there for a couple of hours.

If anything, they are now better than their original, as-produced state.

I may standardise the use of this maturing process in the future.

Here's a way to watch a sort of TV if you've got nothing better to do. It's called Slow Scan TV and is used by Radio Hams to send a picture. Doesn't require any special equipment to receive other than a web browser and a small piece of free software called MMSSTV.
Shown below is a screenshot, Edge browser on the left set on an SDR website, Utwente in Holland, one of the better ones, and on the right the MMSSTV software taking a pix from a Spanish Ham (callsign begins with E.) The MMSSTV software is simply set up to take the output of the PC soundcard, fairly simple to do.
There isn't much point to it I suppose, other than the fact that you can do it. If you time it right during the day you could get pix from the far side of the world on this frequency. (14230 KHz.)
While I was watching it this morning I got pix from Spain, Sweden, Russia and Greece.

Yeah, I know .... I need to get out more .... :lorks:

Today I discovered what the chainsaw was invented for.
Try typing it into Google, bit of an eyeopener!

... this interesting pump at the side of the road.

DSCN8354.JPG

You operate it by pressing the flat plate on the end of the lever with your nose*. This causes a pump to draw up a 'pulse' of water from the bottom of the black pipe, which is immersed in the water in the bottom of the ditch. The lever swings back, when you let it, drawing up another pulse and filling the trough for you.

Despite the field being empty, it only took a couple of pushes to get water flowing and three more to put sufficient on the trough.

DSCN8355.JPG

The customers hardly have to be shown how to use it, they will shove the lever out of the way to get at the water in the trough and spot the principle straight away.

Introducing a little work into the process will greatly reduce the amount of water that they fling around the place, too.

*It should be noted that I operated it by hand, not wanting to risk scratching my glasses - not a great risk for most of the usual customers, it must be said.

... one of my washable masks.

I took it on the pub run last night, but its apparent absence here today has annoyed me irrationally.

I could be quietly confident that I didn't leave it there - I remember it being in the same pocket as the camera and it being put back there after the picture of the pint was achieved.

A few searches of likely places and a day of pulling weeds gave me the time to mull over the possibilities and I came to the realisation that I probably pulled it out of my pocket with the camera, when taking that rather unimpressive shot of the swathe of light on the road half-way home.

This possibility was impossible to ignore, so I've just been back there and found it in pristine condition on the grass verge.
