There were an estimated half a million people on the route up and summit of the Alpe. What number of them were insane Dutchmen isn't recorded, but is likely to have been quite high.

Well i didn't see the racing today, bar the odd snippet from steephill, but from all reports they are all proper knackered. Tomorrow is a bit of a beast as well - looks to me like nobody has the wherewithal to take seconds, let alone minutes, out of Froome. Richie Porte is surely deserving of a medal/honour of some sort for dragging the boy through - Baron Porte of Gell perhaps?

In the absence of anything from today, let's take a trip down memory lane to yesterday. :)

Small - but perfectly formed. And a polka dot jersey to his name.

What a fantastic finish to the stage.

I take back what I said a few days ago. This boy has a smile, a family, and a sense of humour. And he is a racer! Looking forward to 2014.

I even thought i saw a split seconds worth of pain on his face just after he'd sprung Rodriguez and Froome - though it could of course have been wind.
Looking forward to 2014.

A lot of talk about whether he can up his game on the time trial front - ie he'll need to if he wants to seriously contend for the yellow jersey. A lot will depend on the course next year but he'll definitely be one to watch.

Doffage of hat is also due to Froome, of course - has taken everything thrown at him (no urine though) and very much a worthy winner.

P.S. have to work tomorrow so will miss the last day - bugger.

If you are watching W, what do you thing was in that Green Package that Froome has just handed over?
And to whom? Strange that the commentators didn't mention it considering that just minutes before they were just speculating about what was in that hump on Froomes back.

Though thinking about it...

I wouldn't be at all surprised if weren't some sort of Sagan based prank - perhaps the remnants of his beard dye? :)

If you have not done so already, suggest that you see David Walsh's article in Sunday times. Interesting factoid: up to Friday Froome had been subjected to 23 drug tests ( and cleared, obviously). To paraphrase Walsh, the same dickheads who were waving blow-up syringes and shouting abuse at Froome were cheering on Armstrong 2 years ago. They were wrong then and they are wrong now.

You'll find that there's quite a few bikers on here - of all types.

..etc..
Re-reading has been an unalloyed joy.

Have you been keeping up with the Vuelta Affaires de Singe?

His Nibs lost a fair bit of time today - still waiting for him to do a job on the field if he's really up for it. Time bonuses on the line put Roche in Red today - a few stage wins will tell us if Nibbles has the heart for it...
