Wonder if any one would be kind enough to answer a couple of questions to assist me with a talk I am going to give

Have you heard of Unitarianism?

If so

What is your opinion of the movement

I always thought them as Jehovah types not Christians and Jehovah types believe anyone who is not a Jehovah is a devil worshipper, so if you take the beliefs further then if you are Christian or a non believer or Muslim or a train spotting atheist you have a set of horns and a pact with fire

Zion's Watch Tower and Herald of Christ's Presence or the Dandy? - you choose

Heard of it but know nothing about it - although they are 'uni' because they are anti 'trini' aren't they? - if so, make that next to nothing.

Therefore no opinion on it.

Trini and Suzanna - which one would you put a movement on?

They believe in one god rather than theTrinity - ie that Jesus Christ might have been the son of god but was not god or part of god himself, simply a very great prophet. Unitarianism can attract people with a strong interest in social change, drawn to the church because they regard fixed creeds as having been used throughout history as an oppressive way of maintaining an institution or society's existing power structure, and so are more comfortable in a church that doesn't have a creed. Unitarians welcome gays and lesbians in their ministry and support equal rights for gay people within the Church and in society at large. Some American unitarian churches accept Jews, Muslims and Humanists into their church. Not known to be harmful but individual churches might be a bit dodgy.

I find the problem with most religions is the need to hold on to your belief when evidence fails. Because of this it is very hard for a newcomer to take it up, as they don't already have the blind faith needed when questions are asked. Very much a chicken and egg thing to me.

Each to their own, the closest I have to religion is science and in that I have to blindly believe what I'm told as well as I haven't done most of the experiments! Peer review helps here though.

Originally the church were the scholars though? Probably why they were so trusted, when the whole town can't read or write basic English you just had to believe what you were being told was right. Nowadays you'd ask someone on Facebook, then look at a few cat videos and forget about it.

It makes you wonder who the scholars are now.

Hope you don't think i was being sarcastic - i don't know enough about Unitarianism to have an opinion about it.

While i'm not a religious chap myself, i do have a lot of admiration for religious types. It's all too easy to bemoan the inequalities of life but it seems to me that it is the religious community that consistently and actively tries to actually do something to make a difference. In this town you see the House of Bread, set up by a church group, and nationally food banks tend to be organised and run by similar organisations.

I believe Nicedave participates in the distribution of sports kit to Africa - i have given some kit to him for this purpose in the past - presumeably this is organised through his church or whatever Unitarians call it. I'm sure there are other, non-religious groups that do the same sort of thing but it is something you find religious groups getting involved in that is basically a Good Thing.

I had heard of them, but know very little, apart from them being one of the many Protestant sects that are around.
