Seems they can do something right if they tried hard enough.

My wife fits the criteria so i know how difficult it is to safely get her anywhere by car and hopefully will also allow us to apply for disabled parking marking in the future too.

Looking at it more broadly..do people imagine that there will be a proportionate increase in these types of parking areas?

The imagination is a wonderful thing

I find that generally the use of such spaces is disproportionate to the.number of allocated spaces if there is more than the normal two pc allocated spaces so I imagine that any increase in useage won't really have any impact.

This may be of use to those who have their gas/electricity through British Gas.

There is a certain criteria to meet to be awarded the £140 towards either your gas or electric but this is all explained in the link below.

The key facts to the following schemes

THE AFFORDABLE WARMTH SCHEME.

Affordable Warmth Scheme funding is provided by the six major energy companies and is paid directly to the accredited installation companies once they have completed the work (check with your supplier if they are part of the scheme)

Affordable Warmth Scheme rules changed on the 1st April 2017 which has resulted in a simplification of the qualifying criteria. The Government has indicated that this new transitional phase of the ECO Scheme will run for 18 months to the end of September 2018. This will give time to consult on the design of a longer scheme intended to run for a further 4 years to 2022.

WARM HOME DISCOUNT SCHEME.

You could get £140 off your electricity bill under the Warm Home Discount Scheme. (check with your supplier if they are part of the scheme)

The money is not paid to you - it’s a one-off discount on your electricity bill, between September and March.

The 2018 to 2019 scheme will start on 15 October 2018.

THE BIG DIFFERENCE SCHEME

A new partnership has helped thousands of families in the Severn Trent area cut their water bills by up to 90% since it was launched six months ago.

Charitable body, Severn Trent Trust Fund (STTF), is an administrator of The Big Difference Scheme (BDS) working in partnership with Severn Trent Water to support vulnerable families that may be finding it difficult to pay their household bills

If you have a low income you may be able to get a BIG reduction to your existing bill (even if you have already paid it).

This is the msg I put on Facebook any time I see a post that asks about benefit/debt or any struggling to meet their household finances

To maximise your income always check if you are entitled to WORKING TAX CREDIT, it’s a benefit for working people on a low wage. CHILD TAX CREDIT is for families with children

FOOD BANKS at churches and charitable organization are also a great help and they sometimes have grub clubs where they supply the food and you cook a meal to take home or eat there. If your church or social group doesn't do this consider starting a grub club group yourself.

DISCRETIONARY HOUSING PAYMENT is a payment you may receive at the discretion of your local authority which can help towards housing costs to meet the shortfall caused by the welfare reform act.

You can only get it if you are entitled to Housing Benefit or the Housing Costs element of Universal Credit apply to your council if:

  • your Local Housing Allowance is lower than your rent in private rented property

  • your Housing Benefit is reduced because of non-dependant deductions/housing costs contributions

  • your Housing Benefit is reduced because you are working age and it has been decided that you have a spare bedroom in social rented property

  • your Housing Benefit is reduced due to the Benefit Cap
The welfare reform has left many people in debt with rent and council tax - ask at your council benefit department for a DHP form

If your on a low waged income or benefits, you could get £140 off your electricity bill for winter under the WARM HOME DISCOUNT SCHEME. Contact your utility provider between October to December to claim.

If your on a low waged income or benefits and struggling to pay your water rates. Apply for theBIG DIFFERENCE SCHEME OR WATER-SURE TARIFF. Contact your water provider to claim. Reductions range from 10% – 90% off the average yearly charge.

On a low waged income or benefits and you have a WATER DEBT help may be available through a trust fund to clear the debt and start you on an affordable payment plan

On a low waged income or benefits and you have a GAS OR ELECTRICITY DEBT.Help may be available through a trust fund to clear the debt and start you on an affordable payment plan. Contact your utility provider to ask about their trust funds.

Switch gas and utility providers every year to get a cheaper deal – the ‘U Switch’ web site compares savings for your and does the switching

TURN 2 US - GRANT SEARCH

Charitable funds are run by grant-giving charities to give grants to people in financial need.

These utility and money saving tips are UK but there would probably be something equivalent in other countries

Thats some great advice for those who need it @arthur

Be sure to advise though that British Gas opened applications for the warm home discount this year yesterday ( 20/08/2018 ) and its best to apply asap as theres only so many applications they can take as its on a first come/first served basis.

Other energy suppliers may not be running the scheme or have already started/finished their applications for this year so best to check direct with the supplier in this instance.

Just had some fantastic news...

The person i mentioned earlier in the this thread had her PIP tribunal yesterday and i can confirm that not only did the win her case but also it was decided that she would now be awarded enhanced mobility as well as her enhanced care.

She intends to pay back all the loans she has had to have to survive this last 13 months with the backpayment she would now be owed.

Although i'm over the moon that her struggle is over ( well , at least til her next assessment in 2022 ) , I cant help but wonder why it had to go that far in the first place.
Over 75% of these cases that go to tribunal are won and it just leaves the tax payer footing the bill for it in the end .
The stress and anxiety it causes cannot be measured in ££.

The system is wrong , very wrong.

If there was some sort of penalty that could be applied to the people who make and apply the incorrect decisions, that might help..

I thought the same thing , a fine that relates to the amount owed paid by both the DWP and the private contractors that do these assessments should the matter go to tribunal.
The fact that 75%+ cases are being won by the appellant is more than enough evidence to concede something is failing.

However deaf ears , brexit and anti-semitism are all that matters these days it seems.

I’m catching up on this thread a year later - the benefit system is still in chaos - disabled people are still all get turned down for disability benefits even if they have and incurable illness that limits their capability.

The fight goes on for Justice. I have written to our latest MP about the Capita reports being full of inaccuracies and the Job Centre staff trying to make sick people work – wonder if I’ll even get a reply?

The latest information - provided to me by three different clients who are all really ill with serious incurable health conditions have been told they must look for work and go for interviews and give work a try because who know they might get better if they make an effort.

It seems a doctor’s opinion of them being too sick to work counts for nothing these days.

I am outraged on their behalf. I’m still running my project at rising brook – challenging benefit decisions and we have so much more debt work after this last year.

This sort of stuff really pisses me off. The NHS do health, the DWP doe benefits, why should the DWP overrule the NHS on your incurable disease making you too ill for work?

Because the bastards at Capita lie to them about their so called assessment of disabilities.
The benefit system is massively skewed in favour of unemployed 16 year olds getting their unemployed 17 year old girlfriends (both from single parent families with multiple children with multiple different fathers) pregnant do they can move out into a SRH flat paid for by housing benefit & universal credit.

Sounds good to me. Where do I sign up?

Oh shit, you said 16 and 17 year old...
