USB SIM card reader

I consider myself fairly good at languages; did a German A Level, spent much of my childhood summer holidays in France etc, but the USB SIM card reader I've just got off ebay has only come with a Chinese user guide! Does anybody know whether I can just download a generic driver in English, or do I have to use one specific to the reader I've got?

I suspect a generic driver will do - mind you, if it's USB it may not need one at all.

Seconded: what happens when you just plug it in and perform your favourite good luck ritual?

When I plug it in it asks me to insert the driver CD, and when I do that it just installs the Chinese stuff again....

what is it you want to use the SIM card reader for? have you got a data cable for your phone, so you can pull info off it that way?

Do you know who makes it? If not:

* Plug your card reader in and get out of the installer program.
* Download USBView from http://www.ftdichip.com/Resources/Utilities.htm and run it.
* In the left hand pane, you'll see a list of your usb devices. One of them will be your card reader. If there isn't a likely looking candidate, unplug as many USB devices as possible and look again. When you've found a likely candidate in the lefthand pane, click on it.
* Now in the righthand pane, you'll see information about that USB device. Look for idVendor in the left hand column - in the righthand column, you'll see an associated code, starting with "0x". Google this and you should find out who the manufacturer is. Then have a google for a driver.

That probably took longer to read than it does to do. :)

The one I've got is a SIMmax USB 2.0 Mobile Phone SIM CARD BACK-UP Reader & Writer....I did :google: it but got frustrated after a while of looking around so I sent a message to the seller but so far had no response.

It was purely to save the numbers from my mobile...I do have a data cable but when I connect it to my phone it turns it off!

Issue resolved; had an email from the ebay seller with user guides etc. Cheers for your advice anyway!
