On the 6th June, after four long and hard years of planning and works, my Grandad finally got to unveil the memorial to those who served in the Kenyan Police.

Suffice to say we're all very proud of him :)

My Dad was out in Kenya late 60 through to mid 61 doing the last of his National Service in the Stafford's. He was stationed in Nakuru and Mombasa as well as several other locations.

Same as my Grandad, my mother grew up in Mombasa. I think she was born '57, my Grandad would have been there from at least then through to around 1966.

I still wish my grandad was still with us, (and my nan for that matter).

I'd love to sit down with him and finally find out his movements in and around D-Day and his secondment to SCU-4 ( Special Communications Unit 4 - NORDET - still under D-Notice I believe). Document it for the family for the younger generations so they know what sacrifices he made to ensure their freedom.

But as for your G'dad Shoes.....brilliant news!

He loved it! It's quite a civilised car really, standard exhaust and I adjusted the suspension to the softest setting. I think he enjoyed himself anyway!

My Dad had a few weeks off in Kenya in 1966, whilst doing a year in Aden - we still have the obligatory carved antelopes, etc...

Ah yes, he has a reasonably comprehensive collection of souvenirs from his time there.
