Virgin BB issues

wanna see my snake?
My virgin BB has been dead for 48 hours now, anyone else having issues? The website still says no faults, but if I call them I get told there is a fault in the ST17 area and they are working on it. No idea of timeframes, no more info whatsoever, and its starting to annoy me that I can't understand half the callcenter staff I talk to. Anyone else have issues? Not that you can probably answer if you do, lol.

I had similar problem a couple of months ago, eventually a technician told me that the cable needed replacing between me and the box down the other end of our street.
3 weeks later and finally they realised the actual box down the street was knackered... everyone experienced a few problems down here but mine was the worst as I was furthest away. I was off for nearly a month all in all. Hope you dont have my trouble!!

Knock some doors of immediate neighbours dude thats always a good start.

Hope u sort it soon

Well I move house at the end of the month, but it better be back on by then! I'm rarely home, usualy at the GFs, but I know my bro aint impressed. Flatmates are wandering around with glazed looks in their eyes, what do you do with no internet?!?!

Add to the fact some fat emo tart broke our toilet, and we're not having a good week.

I think I might be upgrading to the 20MB service and sharing it with my housemate, which is going to rock seein as he doesnt really torrent anything or do anything intensive. I wonder how much difference it makes, as there are very few http:/ftp servers which max out my current 10MB connection although I regularly get 1.1MB/s on bit torrent, so do you think I will see a significant improvement?

At £18/month each its a no brainer - thats the same price as the 2MB servcie outside of the special offer period!!

What BB package are you supposed to be on Wookie?

STM = traffic management.... if you download too much in peak times then they restrict your service for a bit.

I used speedtest.net to test.

seems ok to me :?:

your first test is clocked and over 2.2MB (megabytes) per second!! that's twice as fast as 10mbps should allow, so count yourself lucky!

as you can see from the bold bits above, your average speed is just over 10mbps..

Ditto what he said....

Although yes if you are using Vuze a lot then expect to be STM'd

See Virgins page on the matter http://www.virginmedia.com/help/traffic-management.php

Or slightly better: http://abcde.co.uk/virginmedia/broadband-faq.html#q49

So basically if you d/l more than 1.2GB between 4pm and 9pm then you get STM'd by 75% for the next 5 hours... (i.e. down to 2.5meg)
