Vision Vauxhall Stafford - beware from buying nearly new cars

Sadly - after 20 years of Vauxhall loyalty - I have finally sold on my 12 month old Insignia.

We purchased this car from Vision Vauxhall in Stafford - after being told it had one previous owner. What the garage forget to tell you is that the majority of their nearly new cars are ex rentals - and previously owned by Enterprise (ERAC) or Provincial Securities (another leese hire company) - The unsuspecting purchaser only finds out the true history when you get the logbook back with the change of ownership.

We purchased the Insignia in June 10 and the car was continually back in Vision Vauxhall having to have work done :- including clutch, flywheel, brakes, handbrake failed, controls falling into the door, electric windows and mirrors stopped working and a constant heavy vibration from the steering wheel. These faults were as a direct result of the overuse/thrashing of the previous owner Enterprise.

If you do buy a car from Vauxhall make sure you see the log book and find out who previously owned the car.

I feel very annoyed that Vision mislead customers - as their one owner description really meant many hundreds of people jumping in and out of the car and totally abusing it - which then led to us having all the problems when we purchased it.

We have now purchased another make of car from another garage - and their salesmen were honest about the previous history of their cars (i.e. ex leese cars or privately owned)

At the end of the day ex leese cars are alot cheaper - and you can purchase these cars from car supermarkets - but you do not expect to find the same sort of cars on Vauxhall main dealer forecourts.

Please be warned - finally managing to part ex this car has cost us alot of money - to get a reliable car.

VISION OUGHT TO BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES - but really they dont give a stuff !

My ex worked for Enterprise dahn darf, they got rid of most cars within the first 12k miles because of the abuse they got. Keep them any longer and the resale value was minimal, the only exception being the VWs which they kept for 15k.

Having been in several (they got free loans at night if the car wasn't out!), I'd steer well clear of them.

Ah Vision Vauxhall...the very same dealer who carried out a full service on my Vauxhall in June a couple of years back, and found no problems. I took my car in again 2 months later to have an electrical fault investigated and to get a quote to fix, and they did a 'routine health check' on the car and found that the whole exhaust was shot to pieces, all the brake pipes were badly corroded and needed to be urgently replaced. In summary, the car was unsafe to drive. They quoted me over £1000 to have this work done (including £100 to fix the electrical fault).

I immediately took my car to an independent garage to have the brakes and exhaust fully checked, and was told by them they were perfectly ok and that the car was in excellent condition!

I sourced the electrical component needed to fix the electrical fault for £20 off the internet and fitted it myself.

I had been a loyal customer of Vision for 6 years.

Needless to say, I have never been back there since and I never will again.

Sadly tek-monkey I would have stayed clear if Vision Vauxhall had been honest

We have looked into it legally and they are not commiting any offence - as when they say one owner - it has - they are just not saying that one owner rented the car to many people

To be honest, I've had a couple of ex rental cars in the past, none of them ever had any problems, so I do think you've been unlucky.

But I too couldn't recommend Vision, sadly we bought a car from them that had a couple of problems, which they either couldn't or wouldn't fix.

Shame really, but we ended up selling the car after less than a year as we couldn't rely on it, and I too would never buy from them again...

At least anyone searching for vision vauxhall may read this thread, we seem to get good rankings with google. MyCult understands this modern witchcraft, any tips to make it better read? ;)

Hi Dabbler -

Im more annoyed with the fact that Vision concealed the fact of its history - and with the problems of the car hadnt properly completed the 150 network Q checks - as some of the problems we had would have been completed under the checks.

We did have a meeting with the main man of Vision, Tim Pickering who offered us 3 choices - keep the car and extend the warranty; give him more money and he will find us a true one owner car; or find us another ex leese car. There was no way we were going to part with more cash to Vision - as they flog substandard cars and we dont want another leese car.

The car we had (which goes today :bananadance:) still had a very bad wheel vibration/wobble at 80 mph. It has been in their workshop 3 times for the same problem- and they kept saying they could only test it to 70mph so couldnt find the fault. They finally said it may be a buckled wheel !!! To buckle a wheel on a big car - surely its been in a crash - but they have said it hasnt ! Whatever the case Vision Vauxhall flog sub-standard cars on the hope that there wont be any problems with them. Ive lost alot of money because I went to a main dealer - when the same car at the car supermaret would have been alot cheaper.

Out of interest I went to see my dad who also purchased a Vauxhall and his was also an ex-rental which he didnt know - and to be fair he hasnt had problems with his car. He still would have paid over the odds and saved a few quid going to a supermarket.

Surely the fact that someone is selling a car less than a year old would have set alarm bells ringing and you'd have asked about why it is for sale. They are under no obligation to tell you, there is no deception involved, to them it's just another car and it's under warranty so it's fine.

If the car is falling apart at less than a year old then it's fundamentally crap, which makes perfect sense considering the Vauxhall badge on the back.

Hi Clarkey - it is quite common for main dealers to have cars under a year old - it used to be people who buy cars, maybe brought wrong one etc - and chop it in for another new one - and in the past you have gone to main dealers for quality cars. I have had Vauxhall's for 20 years (quite a few from Waltons - now Vision) and obviously their standards have gone down and the Vauxhall main deelers are just buying up all Enterprise ex-leese stock and flogging them off. If I wanted an ex-leese car I would have gone to a car supermarket and paid a damn site less. I did ask the questions when I purchased the car and was told one previous owner ....

I understand what you say about warranty - and yes the car was under warranty - but when people work or have busy lives and you have paid top money for what you think is a quality - one owner from new - car - they are distorting the truth. I got sick of tooing and froing to the garage and also did not feel safe with me or my family in that car. Vision Manager Tim Pickering has the attitude keep bringing it back to the garage and we will work on it - surely they should ensure that their cars are reliable in the first place. People do not have the time to be constantly running back and forth from a garage and when you buy a car from a main dealer you dont expect that you will have to do this.

We had always gone to Vauxhall main dealers as we trusted what we were told and what we were sold - lesson now learnt. Sadly I totally believe that they are not being honest and should tell people upfront when you purchase a car the TRUE history of the cars they sell.

We finally got rid of this car and where we purchased it from (a Ford dealership - and not from Stafford) - they were honest and upfront about the cars they were selling - stating which ones were leese cars and which had been privately owned. They also told us our Insignia would end up on another Vauxhall forecourt ;-(

All I want to do is warn people - if they have the misfortune of going to Vision Vauxhall in Stafford (or any Vauxhall garage) and purchase a nearly new car - demand to see the log book and know exactly who the previous owner was before parting with cash.

Since getting rid of my car which I sadly bought from Vision - I told them back in January to remove me from all their marketing ....

I have been contacted by Vision roughly every month since I managed to offload the petrol drinking black shed - Vision either invited me to their open day (this was done by text x 3 and by letter) * I have had a call to see how the car was getting on ?? :grr: * To sell me another Vauxhall and last week they rang to book the Inshitnia in for a service - my wrath exploded on the service manager.

Obviously the bunch of idiots dont know what the left arm is doing from the right !

Each time I have asked them to stop ringing me - and each time they just ignore my request.

My dad's Vauxhall is 3 years old and causing loads of problems - my nephew's Vauxhall estate is 4 years old and the problems with his will cost him so much money its a fine line for whether its worth it. A driver who comes to my workplace said that at his work they had a fleet of new vauxhall vans and they have swapped them in for Ford vans as the Vauxhall one's kept playing up.
