Hi everyone.
I'm new to the forum and pretty new to Stafford having lived here a year now.
Have to say I'm loving it here and wouldn't consider going back to Sheffield.

I'm looking for a way to help out over xmas period, delivering dinners, cooking dinners, soup kitchens, homeless shelters etc.
As I don't know Stafford too well yet I was hoping someone out there could give me some ideas.
Thank you.

hi bouncy, welcome to the forum :D

glad to hear you've decided to come to stafford! i lived in sheffield for 4 years, but found it didn't agree with me, so moved back here last october.. and cookie_monster is a fellow staffordian who now lives in sheffield, has done for years now, and she loves it - so i'm sure you'll have plenty to chat about with the people round here :)

there are a lot of good eggs on here, so i'm sure someone can help you out with your quest for good deeds

Banned for smiling
Yeah nice one Bouncy. I did some work for a Christmas soup kitchen* in Hertfordshire when I lived there a few years ago. It was not only very rewarding to put a smile on people's faces and some hot food in their bellies in the bitter cold, but also made me much more grateful for my pint at the end of the evening.

* for the homeless I might add...not like 'The Soup Kitchen' by St Mary's in town..

Well done for helping out but do remember that many charities and organisations need volunteers all year round too and would welcome support. Volunteering - it's not just for Christmas!

We have got information about how to volunteer all year round. Sometimes you have to have specific dates each week and I work various shifts which is awkward. Hubby works full time so only has bank holidays free and my daughter is in college and working so has the same problem. We would love to something regularly though.

I think it is an excellent idea to have a section on voluntary opportunities and maybe even ethical careers/jobs in Stafford.

Lunar Scorpion has already mentioned the SDVS which is just around the corner from Asda. They have a list of local organisation that people can get involved in.

I am look forward to future postings here.

There's always the Wildlife Trust, although they can be a bit selective as, on very rare occasions, some of the tools may be sharp.
