Wales's 20mph limit.

So visiting my mum in Wrexham and after 3 trips now I can say that about 90% ignore the new limit, 9% show a token attempt about 25mph and about 1% more or less keep to the limit.
Speaking with people they all think it is a stupid idea.
When doing 20mpg the cars are much closer than normal and because it's very slow they are paying less attention to driving. So there will probably be more low speed shunts.

In my non scientific survey of 2 Welshmen, both in their 50s, they believe it's a great idea.
I wonder if any Welsh people live on any of the 20mph roads that Stafford has had for the last decade or so? They seem to have gone unremarked by the general population. Certainly not the furore that we have seen lately to the west.

I reckon West Way and Highfields has been 20mph for getting on for 20 years...
I think the Coton Fields 20mph zone is fairly certainly well before 2010, and my sources in there were unable to give more detailed estimates because they hadn't actually noticed that it had happened.

When we were on holiday in Scotland most villages we passed through between the cottage and Knockhill were 20mph and most cars stuck to the limit.

I can't say that reducing speeds to the lower limit significantly increased our journey times nor were cars closer than they might be at 30mph.

As said above I'm sure drivers will get used to it and it definitely is far safer for pedestrians.

I live in a 20mph zone, my guess is that most abide by it unless it is used as a cut through due to the traffic, and then it's ignored.

Needed more than the 20 mph in urban areas must be 50 mph all the time on those so called "Smart motorways" without a hard shoulder and port luck whether or nor a broken down vehicle will be noticed.
