Utter b/s. As I already pointed out and you conveniently chose to ignore, Ridgebacks are around £1000 each, and only bred by responsible breeders, yet they have a big problem with the sheer number of dogs they find need rescuing.

Utter b/s. It is easy to find homes for Ridgebacks.

See how easy it is to find things easy about things one knows nothing about?

I have my home check with starfish this morning, wish me luck!

I'm not too sure what the lady will make of the place but I did warn her to expect chaos, I'm cooking for 24 people this afternoon and I'll probably be having a sectionable meltdown by the time she arrives, dishwasher has also packed up this morning, I don't know why I do these things to myself!

I'm still smiling at the moment, sort of!

Lady arrived half an hour early to find me still in pjs surrounded by sandwiches and my kitchen looked like a war zone!

That could have gone better!

I wouldn't worry too much. They want the dog to live a normal life, not live in a pristine palace!! Infact the lady admitted to me that people whow were very house proud sometmes struggled to adapt to puppy mess!! When we were home vetted we were due the builders in to mend some structural issues. We had a concrete floor, half a ceiling down, floorboards, and general house reconstruction going on!! Lady couldn't have been nicer and was much more concerned with how I'd react if the dog was sick on my carpet (lol!!) knocked over it's water bowl and other puppy/dog actions, and where it was going to sleep than my half unbuilt house!

It's each to there own beliefs of course but I don't see any problem with people leaving a dog while they go to work providing it has all it needs and gets plenty of fuss in the evenings. It's more about routine I think and what the dog sees as being "the norm". I'd feel cruel to leave ours for more than a few hours, but that's because it's never been that way in their entire lives.

I've met dog owners that are at home 24/7 and never pay a blind bit of attention to their pets. I've also met those that work during the day and in the evenings spend every minute walking them, chucking balls up the garden and then cuddling on the sofa till bedtime.

We're still on the puppy hunt, 5/6 months which is what the starfish puppies are by the time they have been transported over from Spain is a little older than we were hoping for and it's so difficult to make a decision based purely on a couple of pictures posted on Facebook and again not knowing background is a risk I don't want to take as my children's safety comes first.

I'll post if/when I find something but in the mean time if anyone stumbles across some pups please let me know.

Thanks

Sherlie Bradley @ Little Starfish have got a whole litter of 7ish week old puppies at the moment, mother Breton spaniel, dad unknown, but Mum was rescued from the kill shelter while pregnant so pups have had a perfect life so far in that they were born in a foster home and have been very loved. Mum has an excellent temperament by all accounts.

These no good, sure they'd be fine with kids being so well loved their whole lives? I have to admit to being a little tempted myself!!

Puppy video alert!!

I think you will struggle to find a puppy without paying for one. You might get lucky and find someone who’s had an unexpected litter but usually it’s breeders with puppies to sell and they’d want at least £100 or so. When a rescue has puppies they go like lightning to a home because the queue is usually huge too.

Worth noting a lot of charities will ask for a donation that may be 3 figures too. It varies by breed and age. Even private rescuing people ask because they don’t want some opportunist who will just sell the dog on - so the money is there to show you’re serious.

My suggestion to you would be to look on Pets4Homes, filter to any breed, filter the price to what you’d be okay with and look through both Sale and Adoption. You might get lucky but chances are most will be at least a year or two old.

I don’t mind paying to a rescue at all, if getting an unwanted pup independently I would be happy to pay a charity donation, for me it’s the principle, I don’t want to pay a 3 figure sum to the guy down the pub because he thought getting his pet knocked up was good way to make a few quid or worse a puppy farm.

I don’t mind spending money but It’s my choice where I want to spend it. I’ll wait, I’m not in a hurry the right pup will come along eventually I’m sure.

I can appreciate that, may have misunderstood your original not wanting to pay 3 figures statement.

Something will come along!

We are also looking for a pup .we rescued a dog from the Labrador trust ,while he has been a great dog ,we were his 3rd owner he wasn't used to walking on a lead and barked at other dogs ,we tried everything ,in the end he pulled our back and shoulders out it wasn't an enjoyable experience when walking him .when we got in touch with the rescue team they don't tell you much about the dog so when this 8 stone brown donkey jumped out of the car we were a little shocked , but we persevered. so we have had him for 8 years and he can no longer do the walks due to hip problems .im going back to a crossbreeds as the last lab cross we had was smaller and came from a local Farm and we trained him ourselves as we had him from a pup.plus im semi retired now so will have more time ,so i'm following your post as we also are in no rush .
