Last night was the school prom!

I went to celebrate with the kids as they all started the same year as me and I had an amazing form over the last five years!

Luckily all our food arrived luke warm which was a blessing as it was 30+ degree heat in a venue without air con and 100 teenagers!

I had tomato soup, a butternut squash parcel and was supposed to have sticky toffee pudding...

However it mysterious disappeared while I was away from the table! I'm assuming some cheeky so-and-so had themselves second helpings!!

I suspect that it was Oliver :)

Enjoying a drop of red.
BBQ tonight. Steak, proper sausages from a great local butcher and some veggie stuff as well. Mrs p doing a nice crispy salad to go with it. Pud will be the remainder of the apple crumble I made yesterday, as I made a larger one than I had intended. Now the weather's a tad cooler back on the wine as well so a nice bottle of Nuits Saint Georges will go down nicely, I think.

I am having Thai seafood curry, followed by chicken tikka and possibly a bit of veg curry, then some form of pudding.

This is because I am captive at Brands Hatch Mercure and all they're offering is a buffet of Curry's, puddings and a variety of salads all for the bargain price of £25 a head!!

The seafood curry had friggin crabsticks in it so I asked the chef which part of the sea they came from and he just shrugged his shoulders and just skulked off back to the kitchen. I did manage to fish all of the king prawns out of the serving tray though.

It's even worse now, they're trying to charge for everything. Breakfast isn't in the rate, parking is £10, £25 for a poor buffet, etc, etc.

I refused to pay the parking as they never used to charge for it for guests and then when they said everyone had to pay I questioned whether the manager was discriminating against me as a blue badge holder. No parking fee for me.

I shall be seeking other venues for the last race of the season in October.

So tonight's delightful offering from the Brand's Hatch Mercure is a variety of salads (probably left over from yesterday), another buffet but this time sausage (probably left over from breakfast) and mash, pasta and pizza and a variety of puddings (probably left over from last night). All in for £25 per head!!

They weren't happy when I cancelled my table and even less happy when I ordered a meal from the Indian restaurant down the road and had it delivered to my table in the bar :)

I think a few others have just done the same after seeing my meal.

The previous Indian where I currently am was a marvellously enterprising chap - he would deliver to any of the pubs and then come round later for the remains.

His insurance not only covered him for food deliveries, but also for private hire, so he would take you and your meal back to your house, should you so require.

"He knows how to get into more houses round here than I ever did", the local retired sergeant once told me.
