What's for dinner/tea?

Strange animal the pig. When you go way out in the back of beyond, each village will have a pig - smallish villages it always seems to be just the one - that survives on the scraps and discarded detritus of human habitation. I never quite worked out the 'ownership' score in this scenario, but of course a pig will go a lot further than a chicken in the meaty scheme of things. Perhaps its lowly status is derived from its propensity to wallow in the most unutterable of filth.

Despite what some may say, the pig truly is a filthy animal and will eat almost anything. When on manoeuvres it is always advisable to make sure your hog is very well cooked. Major source of various flatworms amongst other things.

I feel i have been unduly harsh on the pig - a filthy animal it may be, but a delicious animal it is too.

My significant other half has the depth of character to be a vegetarian. I support this as I'm ashamed of the standards in which our dinners live and die. That said I can't bring myself to eat vegetarian 'food'. Why is it that the most delicious of dinners come from food that once had a face. She very bravely made me a proper meat casserole the other night, that's a big deal for a veggie. It was heaven, full of rich full bodied flavour.

Roast beef dinner last night with the in-laws followed by apple pie (Tescos not mine) and custard.

Had planned on salmon for tea tonight but looking at the weather I think I'm swaying towards the idea of a pie, and I just happen to have one (Again Tesco's - Finest steak pie) in the fridge. May have a go at some dauphinoise potatoes though.

I lived with a vegie for a few years, and more often than not - mainly because I couldn't be bothered cooking two different meals - I became almost veggie as well. One day I'd had enough so when the quorn sausages went in the over I pulled a fillet steak out of the fridge, left it cooking in the griddle pan and went off to do something for 30 seconds, by the time I came back into the kitchen half of it was missing :o

About a week later he 'officially' started eating meat again!

Last night I had what I call 'cheesy pasta pie' it’s exactly as it sounds, pasta, a ridiculous amount of cheese sauce, peas, 'fake' bacon in a pie dish with even more cheese grilled till crispy.

I’m pretty sure it has your weekly allowance of fats blah blah blah in it, it was awesome!

Some of the vegetarian options at Narvana are heavenly, in particular the garlic sobzi and a dish made with paneer I can't remember the name of. Only think missing was a side of chicken tikka to be honest, my carniverous tendencies are hard to fight!

EDIT: Tonight shall be pizza from asda, most likely chilli beef, spicy chicken, bacon and chilli cheese. I add the onions and peppers myself, no point wasting a meat topping for them!

Tonight we had odd bits from the freezer....some salmon and chicken kebabs (from when I though we were going to have a barbecue summer, more fool me).
Made a large salad, not really the weather for salad but we are both pretending to be healthy.
I made some ciabatta bread which remarkably was lovely.

Home made chicken pie, although I bought ready to roll puff pastry.

Filled it with chicken, mushroom, sweetcorn and a white sauce.
Potatoes from the garden and birds eye peas.

Vegetable curry - cauli, dwarf (or vertically challenged if you prefer) beans, carrots and butter beans - with rice (cooked with cardamom and turmeric) and naan (i didn't make the naan). Yum.

I have managed not to kill anything for two days now, though i have squeezed the odd cow udder for my coffee.

Last night was boiled ham, mash, cabbage & leeks and parsley sauce.

Chilli chicken wraps for tonight - lots of bowls of meat, cheese, salad and dips to wrap up at the table - it's the small one's favourite.

Whilst I enjoy the summer for bbq's etc I do look forward to the autumn/winter for soups, stews etc. Do enjoy root vegtables such as leeks, parsnips, swede etc.

Lunch today was last nights leftover chicken pie warmed up.

Tonight it's breaded haddock, mash, peas (again)

Easy meal tonight, can't be bothered to cook properly as I have been pretending to be a stepford wife/ domestic goddess today and have made 24 pots of blackberry jam for the harvest festival on Sunday.

One hour to make the jam.

2 hours faffing around cutting out material with pinking shears for the lids and also making fancy labels.

3 hours clearing up the mess.
