Had two thick sirloin steaks from Whitehouses Bridgtown branch last night.
They looked really nice but were tough as old shoe leather. I mean really tough as in couldn't eat them tough.
We have loads of stuff from them over the course of the year and never had any problems before.

We had sirloin steak and salad tonight and the steaks were beautiful and tender.

Steaks were from Aldi.

I know that I'm contradicting myself as I'm usually the first to support the independent retailers but as far as meat is concerned I now rarely buy from anywhere else but Aldi.
I've never been disappointed with the quality, it's really good stuff and an added bonus is what good value it is.

Thinking i would knock up some Bombay Potato on the quick, i rather overdid it on the parboiling front.

So Bombay Mashed Potato it was - tasty enough, but not quite what i'd ordered.

Enjoying a drop of red.
Mrs p just in from work. p jr on a sleepover, bottle of red opened (with a spare on standby, just in case), home made Pommes Dauphinoise in the oven, a couple of sirloin steaks from Hindle's and some home-made onion rings ready to go at the appropriate time and home made Eaton Mess for pud.

Life's hard at times...

We need a process to select sittings for these teas, obviously we all can't just turn up.

How could we do this?

Most posts? Most likes? Longest time with the same avatar? What else could be sensibly used to prioritise the sittings..?

Back on topic....

Last night I cooked local cheese ravioli in a sauce made with the fillings of local sausages and lots of garlic and topped with bits of a local hard peppered cheese, and it was good. Inspired by something I tried in a restaurant earlier in the week.

Today I've eaten a rabbit pasty, much to the youngests horror, but when in Gozo!

I was given a crumble today - I've just heated it up and my initial thoughts were that it was "not at all right" - both taste and texture were well outside expectations - then I realised that it was not an apple crumble, but a rhubarb one, and rather a nice one at that.

All is well - carry on.

Husband can't cook (he's actually quite hopeless) but one of the easy recipes that I've taught him is tuna pasta.

So last night he cooked it and it tasted of "Christmas"

I said, "oh this is unusual, what have you done different?"

Him, .... "you said to put mixed spice in it"

Me, **rolled eyes**, "no, honey, I said mixed herbs"
