What's the worst film you've ever seen/favourite film?

Following on from the Dark Star Thread, I thought I'd start this little beauty.

Not sure about the worst. A few contenders:

Highlander 2, Batman & Robin, that thing where Demi Moore sexually harrasses Michael Douglas, The Thomas Crown Affair (remake), Ocean's Eleven (remake), BILLY ELLIOT!!!!!!! WHAT IS THE POINT?????!!!!!!!!!!

Some of my faves:

Fight Club, La Haine, Do the Right Thing, Empire Strikes Back, It's a Wonderful Life, Dazed and Confused, Spirited Away etc etc

if you think ocean's eleven honestly ranks amongst the worst films you've ever seen then you really can't have seen many bad films :?:

don't get me wrong, it's far from a masterpiece, but it's just like any other blockbuster film out there, there's nothing particularly bad with it imo..

two films spring to mind when i think "worst ever": Bringing Out The Dead and Creep.. the only reason i say that is because they are the only times in my entire life i can remember wanting to walk out of the cinema..

You mean Disclosure? That was on the other night.

Worst Films (off the top of my head but there are hundereds more) - Oceans Twelve (I can just about manage the remake), Basic Instinct 1 and 2, Blade Trinity, Ring, Silent Hill, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Kill Bill 2, The Wicker Man (remake - La Bute and Cage will get it in the end), The Machinist, ID/Football Factory/Green Street, Willow etc etc

Fave Films - Hidden, Grizzly Man, Old Boy, The Third Man, The Wild Bunch, Bring me the Head of Alfredo Garcia, anything by Christopher Guest, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Brazil, Goodfellas, The Thing, LA Confidential (most things with a nod towards Noir in fact), Zatoichi, North by Northwest, The Long Good Friday, Withnail and I, Matewan and Lone Star.

That'll do for now.

How many times have you watched Ocean's Eleven? The first time I watched it I thought it was OK. I'd even go so far as to say I enjoyed it. I told people it was a bit far fetched, but quite entertaining. The second time I watched it I nearly booked a ticket to Hollywood so I could personally assassinate every person involved with it. It really is piss poor.

Alright, it may not be one of the very worst films I've seen, but I was struggling to recall every bad film I've seen, and as it's pretty bloody awful, I thought I'd put it down. No, actually, feck it, it's one of the worst. And that's saying something, because I'm quite easily pleased when it comes to films.

I thought The Blair Witch Project was utter pap, too. And the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre has to be the most overrated film I've seen.

weird - i wonder what caused your opinion to change so drastically?? i've seen it twice; once at the cinema and once at home with my biznotch.. both times, i thought exactly the same as your first experience - bit far fetched, but a reasonable slice of entertainment..

well, that's fair enough - at least you're sticking to your guns!

What loved me off more, like X3 too, is that a potentially decent trilogy was ruined by the final effort. Both films - Blade Trinity and X3 - are farking appalling.

Oh almost forgot some more fave films - Hell Boy, The Devils Backbone, Way of the Gun, The Proposition, Lethal Weapon 1 and 2, Die Hard trilogy, History of Violence (one of the best graphic novel adaptations IMO), Don't Look Now, Shaun of the Dead, Evil Dead 2 and the original version of the Wicker Man.

I would have loved to add Road to Perdition in there as well. Unfortunately the cowardly script writer changed the ending. The one that was in the graphic novel was far better - and darker - IMO.

Maybe I was just in a particularly cynical mood second time round. I know I have no desire to watch it again anyway.

I know it's not a bad film, but I can't see what all the fuss is about with 'Apocalypse Now'. To me, it's just trying a bit too hard to be weird. I'd rather have 'Platoon' to be honest.

Or 'The Deer Hunter'. Now that's a film.

i agree platoon out ranks apocalypse now but think full metal jacket is the best war movie ever. that or hot shots...

I quite liked X3, although I know it's not cool to say so. To be honest, I don't see how you could say X3's appalling, yet Hellboy's one of your favourites. But then, it's a matter of taste I suppose. Don't get me wrong, I liked Hellboy, but I don't see what puts it head and shoulders above The Last Stand, especially when it was so Hollywood-ified compared to the graphic novels. But, like I say, one man's meat etc.

For some reason, I've never got round to watching any Blade films, along with loads of other films I'm ashamed to say I've somehow thus far missed (Usual Suspects, LA Confidential etc).

Shaun of the Dead is definitely up there, as is Evil Dead 2 - good call.

I forgot about A Simple Plan. Better than Fargo and Shallow Grave - both of which it has been compared to - put together, although I liked both of those, too.

Won't argue with that, although I might prefer Deer Hunter. Recently acquired both on DVD, so I'll give them both another try and see who wins.

Really enjoyed Saving Private Ryan, despite the odd premise, and, although I know I'm going to get shot down by Mr Gloop on this one, I farking loved Black Hawk Down.

A Simple Plan is mint.

From a film making pov Hell Boy has at least some cohesion, X3 is a mess. Pity because the script as it stood doesn't resemble the final film at all. Thanks to Ratner and his coke addled brain.

I've seen the Madonna/Ritchie collaboration - shit.

The uncut version of Leon is superb. Millers Crossing is genius, Chopper is great and Mash is arguably Altman's finest. One final film, Grosse Point Blank. Ever lovin John Cusack at his best.
