I once got chatting to someone who told me they used to work in a garlic bread factory -

they still cant eat it to this day!

I thought that was pretty bad, but out of interest was wondering what you guys have done?

I'm not sure I've ever had a bad job as such, I've had loads that people look down on but thats not the same. I've certainly never been truly unhappy at work, I tend to find other employment before any become a real drag. Even order picking up at the argos warehouse wasn't that bad, as an agency worker you were treated like crap but knowing I was just there killing time til another 'real' job came along whereas the managers yelling at you would never escape the warehouse floor always cheered me up.

Handing out leaflets, dressed as a giant bear, in a city center in the West Midlands, whilst small sticky children snook up for a cuddle (couldn't see them coming), and adults randomly tried to make me jump by creeping up behind me...

Then having my picture taken by the local paper and the embarrassment of all my mates finding out (I was only 17 at the time so it was VERY embarrassing!)

Did a couple of months in a factory once, either cutting lengths of tubing into smaller lengths ready for bending or bending bits of tubing that someone else had previously cut to size. Mind numbingly boring. Mind you, as a one off I and another guy did get to bend some huge lengths of section to make bus shelter frames, I nearly fainted with the exitement.

I spent a year working in a nursing home, hated every minute of it, although the job itself wasn't exactly glamorous, the old folk were (mostly) lovely and the real issue was very bad management, a huge amount of bullsh*t and 'office' politics which made it a miserable place to spend 70 - 80 hours per week.

I wonder how many people in Stafford have worked there at least once. When it was at Penkridge i had the wonderful job of picking up the empty boxes in the order picker's wake. Likewise, the fact that it was always going to be a temporary arrangement made it bearable.

Being signed to an employment agency darn sarf for a bit i had a few stinkers - probably worst being envelope-stuffing for a publisher sending yearly invoices out to customers across the globe.

cleaning the mens toilets in my dads steel factory on a saturday morning. It served as a punishment for being caught spending my dinner money on benson and hedges. If I remember correctly the punishment lasted for 3 years. On the upside I was able to spend half the time smoking in the ladies toilets as i was the only female there. Every cloud and all that.

I once sanded all the floors in a terraced house in one day - a baking hot day in the late '90s. It was truly barbaric. I knew that, if I stopped then I would never be able to persuade myself to start again. There was something odd about the wood, it came off as fibres rather than dust. I had pyramids of it on my head and each shoulder. Visibility was very poor and I was worried about the possibility of a dust explosion.

I've done other houses since and nothing has been anywhere near as bad as that one.

I once delivered 1000 bulky ikea catalogs to houses round Stafford.

All I had was one of those day - glow paper round bags and my own two feet.

I cant recall if it was raining or not, but I bet it was!

I am prepared to admit that all I wore, due to the heat, was a set of white overalls, a hat and a nether garment...

I did deliver the yellow pages once, that sucked! Still, I was a student and wanted some beer money, didn't have to do it.
