Where do the arrows go?

I've noticed them before, arrows stuck to lamp posts.

Last year they were as you come over the motorway bridge from Doxey, today they are in Ranton, pointing towards Ellenall.

Some are red, some have orange and some have green.

Where do they go?

What are they for?

I'm sure I tried to follow them last year and ended up on the A518 in Haughton after not seeing another.

There was one on Pinfold Lane in Penkridge today, then blue arrows on a white background as I went through Whiston all the way to Church Eaton.

I've only just seen this thread. They were definitely for the Hospice event. You followed a different coloured arrow depending on what distance you were doing. A team of volunteers went out last weekend and put them up. Judging only by my own neck of the woods this morning, they have already removed them.

It was the first time I had cycled along the Isabel trail. What a brilliant surface. The railway line from Doxey to Derrington was a bit unpleasant on my road bike.

Excellent route apart from a pig of a hill into High Offley and an extremely dodgy shortcut lane into Ranton - I fell off there. We even took in the canal festival at Norbury, thereby uniting two Forum threads in one. Three, actually - I saw the car boot sale from the back.

Stoofer, you rebel!

Please tell me you weren't the rider who exclaimed "I wasn't expecting THAT!" on coming upon myself and my cycling buddy just outside Derrington. It was the "that" which gave us cause for concern. A few minutes later I was in a heap at the side of the road. I certainly hadn't been expecting that.
