Okay bear with it does make sense - I have been given the most gorgeous piece of wood, a slice of tree trunk its beautiful, I want to make it into a coffee table so does anyone know where in Stafford I can get cut (for not much money) a round piece of toughened glass?
I know there’s a window place on Astonfields, but is that all just pvc? It needs to be about 3ft in diameter!

Cheers thankyou x

wanna see my snake?
When I needed a new door for my snake viv it was done by some guys operating out of this house:

That was toughened glass, a little over 2 feet long. No idea if they can help, or even if they are still there (it was 7 years ago!) but you never know.

I've usually used the place here - I think it's Stafford Glass and Glazing 01785 225445 or it might be Stafford Glazing Services 01785 247118. See what they say.

Thankyou, just rang and spoke to an old dear who was lovely but didn’t seem to know much.....
Going to ring me back, it costs more to get it toughed but she didn’t know if it would need to be toughened or not for what I want it for!
Thankyou am eagerly awaiting reply!

The garden furniture will start appearing soon in B&Q, Homebase, etc. - might be worth a look to see if they have a glass-topped table that you could cannibalise.

I have had a look on ebay and there are some hideous 70's tables that I could destroy but I’m not sure how the glass is attached to them and how I could get it off.....

I used glass and glazing for some shelves and they did a great job. I am sure it will have to be toughened glass and also have the edges rounded off

Have you considered perspex as an alternative? Not too expensive and pretty tough, and I'm pretty sure most DIY places will sell it.

Nowhere near the scratch-resistance of glass, of course - but it could also be cut to the shape of the wood's outline fairly easily..

Somewhat harder to shatter too, think that should also be mentioned. Just a thought :) I guess it depends on the frequency of coffee-drinking as to how much wear it would receive?

I personally would prefer glass, although I did consider perspex!
It would be in my living room so would get worn quickly, plus i think glass is beautiful, maybe that sounds silly!
Looking on ebay at the mo for old glass tables!
Thankyou!
