Point taken. See what you mean as whilst we had relaxed borders within the British Isles, the UK and Ireland had border controls with Europe prior to joining the EEC/EU.
I wonder what the set up is in Norway and Switzerland who are not in the EU but have borders with EU countries.

Norway and Switzerland are both within the Schengen Area.

Light blue means Non-EU Schengen member.

Ireland only stayed out to keep the UK happy.

That was the highlight of the 2001 election campaign. I'm struggling to think of anything remotely interesting or significant this time round. Miliband tripped up leaving a stage but sadly didn't do a full Madonna.
