I have now decided to offer 12 months "Livedrive Unlimited Cloud Backup" (worth £48 a year) COMPLETELY FREE to all customers with any fixed price repair (or a general service) at my usual price of £30!

As a comparison, PC World currently charge a fixed fee of £50 for repairs, and £30 for a 512GB online backup account. Therefore my price of £30 for both gives a saving of 62.5% (as well as no limit on backup space)

EXISTING BACKUP CUSTOMERS - If you have recently paid an annual renewal charge for your Livedrive account with me, then I am unable to refund your most recent payment. However, I will refund the price paid off your next repair providing that it falls within your current backup period. ;)

Q. Why?
A. Because I'm nice!

Q. No, really, why?
A. Because as well as using this as an incentive for being a customer, I believe that EVERYONE that uses a computer should back up - but 90% of people don't! I've lost irreplaceable family photos myself before, and would hate to think of any of my customers experiencing the same gut-wrenching feeling if the same happened to them.

Q. How can I get it for free if I don't need a repair?
A. Why not book a service? I'll dismantle your computer and thoroughly clean the cooling system. (Overheating due to blocked vents is the biggest killer of laptops. Regular servicing can help to prevent this)

Any more questions, please ask :)

I am a bit of a Luddite and don't really understand this 'Cloud' thing so where do you actually back up your files to?

The "Cloud" is basically secure servers on the internet - in the case of the product I offer it's a company called Livedrive.

You install the software onto your computer and tell it which folders to back up (ie Pictures, Music etc). The software then uploads your files onto Livedrives secure servers. The connection is encrypted for your security, and data is stored in their data-centres using military grade encryption so that only you can access them. Whenever you make changes to your backed up folders on your PC, those changes are reflected in your cloud backup service. Should the worst then ever happen, you are able to either use the software to download your files in bulk, or you can log into the web portal and download files one by one.

The great thing with cloud backup is that it's set & forget... you dont need to remember to upload new files as it watches the folders you select automatically. As it's also in "The Cloud", your data can then be accessed again even if your house was struck by lightening and your PC and external hard drive were destroyed!

It has some other great uses. Android / iPhone and iPad apps allow you to stream the videos / pictures / music etc from your home PC on the move. The web portal even allows you to play your videos etc. from anyone's PC connected to the internet. They also store the last 30 versions of a file too - so if you save changes to a document on your PC and then wish you hadn't, you can download a previous version of the same file.

I could waffle on forever, but that's the basics.

Right, having seen the trauma with the 'lost and found' photos the other day and just had a disc warning myself, I've decided to take advantage of this excellent offer. I don't have a great deal on here, but when I thought it might be gone, it suddenly seemed a lot more.

Top marks to Wmr again, as usual.

Even the Census of UK citizens is stored there

And the Gov.uk websites are also American
