Wolverhampton bus lane cameras to be switched on in June

...you might think they would try a more welcoming tactic for visitors.../
They must have been taking tips from our own dear local council.

Speaking of bus lanes, I am regularly flabbergasted by the way Stafford drivers always seem to respect the bus lane opposite Sainsbury's. You'd have thought nipping up the inside lane there would be like catnip to the twat community, but no. Another mystery.

Advice from Dublin this morning - don't drive up a bus lane, if your tax is nearly a year out...

Well they have to make up the shortfall in revenue from parking even though Wolverhampton now charges for Sundays and evenings.
So sad to see the demise of my home town.

i hope one day all bus lanes become 2+ speed lanes or better still remove them altogether to increase road capacity. if that one on chell road was removed you could have 2 lanes westbound from foregate street gyrator y all the way to doxey road roundabout.

I'd gather that the vast majority of bus lanes are not policed in anyway, I welcome that change.

I have always thought it a good venture; to sit at the end of a bus lane, take snaps of the zankers (that feel they over the rest of us, have the right to drive up and down them), send the pics into the correct department, where the driver could/would/should be fined, the council takes a percentage of the paid fine and the person that took the picture, the rest, win win!

I/someone (and the council) could make a small fortune, but alas it's not actually possible.

Having seen this on a daily basis on my in and out of Wolverhampton commute, I'm chuffed to the f'n moon and back about this!

Why do those few, think they can use the bus lane when the rest of us are "patiently" waiting abiding by the law of the road??

Or just get a genuine taxi plate, like Ryanair's Michael O'Leary has, and do it legitimately?

It's a Monaghan plate, so he can drive in bus lanes in Dublin, but he doesn't have to pick up street calls.

Enjoying a drop of red.

Apparently, in Central London, there are Lamborghinis and Ferraris officially registered as taxis in order to legitimately use bus lanes

You need to consider your obligations as a taxi, as well as your additional rights. By having an 'out-of-area' plate, Mr O'Leary has the benefits, but is not obliged to pick up any hails when the the car is empty, i.e., it's travelling to pick him up. In the unlikely event of the car ever needing to go to Monaghan and the car being empty at that time, he would have to remove the signage or pick up anybody that hailed him, for whatever journey they had in mind.

Having a London plate when in London would not be a wise move, I would think - not too sure how it works here, though.

Seems as though while Wolverhampton and others put in bus lanes, and thousands of pounds worth of law enforcement kit, some councils are investigating how the road network performs. Halesowen have decided bus lanes are a waste of time and are removing them.

Halesowen bus lanes axed to combat jams.

A 12-month trial had shown there were no benefits of having the other lanes for buses. Concerns have also been raised about the lanes causing traffic queues around the town centre. It will cost Dudley Council £2,500 to remove them and open them up to all traffic.
