    There are nil nils.

    And there are nil nils.

And that was one of them.

Actually i had 3 certainties today - one was that Froome would be an Abandonement, two was that Cancellara would win today's stage, three was that this game would go to penalties.

Two out of three ain't Meatloaf.

    Narrowly averted. Phew!

    So, Germany v. Argentina.

On first inspection it would appear to be one of those 'punch to the head/ kick in the nads?' kind of options. On second inspection it would appear to have remained pretty much unchanged from its first inspection.

    So -
punch to the head = Germany?
kick in the nads = Argentina?

Without wishing to 'hex' anyone, i'm going for one to the down below. How about you?

I have a feeling that Argentina will edge it. Not expecting another 0-0 anyway.

1982 Schumacher - dirty cheating bastard who should not have remained on the field of play
1986 Maradona - dirty cheating bastard who should not have remained on the field of play

2014 Müller - dirty cheating bastard who should not have remained on the field of play
2014 Messi - Messianic - deserves the day on the field of play

Is the way i sees it - the sins of '86 to be washed clean.

Got to fancy the Germans to nick it, though.

Sideshow Bob had another 'great' game last night. Chelsea must be wetting themselves wondering how they got £50m for him.

Argentina have shown how to get to a world cup final without playing well. it can be done, England should be more than capable next time ;)

all the best teams, and England were out after the quarter finals

Germany for me, just because they've played better. i'll turn it off at the final whistle tho, no need to see the celebrations. Is Shakira on before or after the match

All we are saying is give us a goal!
Good game though, Argentina have raised their game and stopped Germany's crisp passing.
    Argentina on penalties!

I'll happily take my punch to the head...

Interesting, if not hugely exciting, game - in many ways what can be expected when a rock meets a hard place. Top drawer goal to decide it seems in keeping with a most excellent Tournament.

    Well done Germany. [IMG]

See you all in Russia... :)

Germany are deserved winners. They destroyed Portugal and Brazil and played with attacking intent throughout the tournament.

Only 2 years until Euro 2016!!!

Only 27 days until football starts again!!!

Messi - best player of the tournament??? more reputation than performance during the tournament.
    should have been James Rodriguez.

Same look in the BBC pic - he gives the impression that he thinks he's been set up...
