The FIFA Dream team is a little laughable isn't it?

A bloke who did'nt win a general election.

A bloke who played football but never won a World Cup - or even appeared in the final.

A minor Royal whose connection to Football I do not know about.

Anyone think of three better?

Boris? Jim Davidson and Ron Atkinson?

Genesis?

Doh.....

A bloke who "didn't win a general election" - I'd call being in charge of the country a pretty good win...

A bloke who may never have won the world cup but is one of if not the most recognisable faces of football on the planet....

A Royal who is president of the English Football Association and also making major headlines all over the world at the moment...

Some people are never happy....

So go on then, how much is this going to cost me, the tax payer? And how much sodding football will have have to endure? Will our team still be a useless? Will we get knocked out early? I hope so.

I enjoy watching a bit of footie but like the Olympics the World Cup won't affect anyone north of Watford!

OK we may get some minor teams playing at Villa Park but that is about it!

So Russia get the Wold Cup!

Am I bovvered?

Why should we host it again when we have already hosted it, it's right that other countries get the oppourtunity to stage major sporting events.

I must admit i'm not that bothered that we didn't get it, but that simply wasn't the case. Unlike the Olympics the World Cup would've been at sites all over the country - indeed one of the strengths of the bid was the amount of infrastructure already in place.

Well the UK got knocked out of the voting in the first round. Russia is the venue for the 2018 World Cup with Qatar being the venue for 2022. Don't think I'll bother to go to either. :(

I agree with you for the Olympics, but as Withnail says, the World Cup would have been at stadiums all over the country... and not just small teams either.

Also understand what you mean that we've had it once so why should we get it again when others have never had it..... but the whole premise that the host country is selected on a bidding process and the best bidder wins.... when in reality its all done with brown envelopes stinks!

I can't stand kickBall, but if nowt else this would have provided jobs and got important foreigner money into English peoples pockets. From that view alone I was fine with it, but I don't know how much it will cost to host.

Perhaps if the last winners were to host it our players would get off their arses and perform next time round.

If the olympic stadiums are anything to go by then the £bn's spend on sourcing materials from abroad will easily negate any foreign money coming in. Not to mention the other costs of it. Having not seen any figures, I'm sceptical that this would turn a profit for the UK at all.

Most of these great events are portrayed as though they are modern versions of the Great Exhibition or the Festival of Britain, but the reality is usually very much less ( Millenium Dome, anybody? ). You can spend resources in this way to great effect, or you can just waste it, put some in your own pocket or give it to your mates - it depends upon what you're really trying to do...
