Think you need a PSV (or whatever they're called) for taxi work?

As for the lack of jobs, dunno if its still the case but 3 years ago the computers in the job centre and the website didn't quite match, always a few differences. There are always jobs available though, just maybe not ones you want. Thats why all the Poles are here! ;)

Nope.
thats for proper minibuses over 8 passenger seats.

What you need are:
Council hackney and/or private hire licenses. £30-odd quid each.
CRB disclosure, via council, £36 quid. (oddly, my little sis had hers done by Lancs County Council for her job up north for only £12) Just to make sure you're not a career criminal when you start the job.
Council approved medical, something like £90 (same as the PSV/HGV one, but more expensive because the council are involved.)

Also useful: ability to read a map/use a sat-nav, more that a five second memory span, patience of a saint, and some driving ability.

There are jobs going on the buses. They pay you while you train AND they pay for your training.
The pay is quite good for Stafford and you get to meet people all day long!
Pop into the Dorrington Drive depot and pick up a form. It's just up by the Rangers ground.

The only out lay is £40 quid for your medical.

I used to catch the 101 all the time, and most of the drivers were friendly and pleasant. One or two real cocks, though...

same in any town/city. there is the occasional bus driver who thinks that because they're always on the road, they own it and have the right to enforce the road laws, yet break those very laws they so venomously spout whenever it suits them. same with taxi drivers. same with cyclists. dont succumb to the hate! its for people who arent happy with themselves or situation and prefer to hate the world (far easier!) instead of identifying and sorting out their problems.

er...... sorry, felt the need. good luck to you bazza, and in finding a job!

You wouldn't believe the s**t we have to put up with from the GFP* some days, it's enough to make a saint swear. You certainly have to have a sense of humour.

I am usually very helpful and friendly to my passengers and the only time I get really hacked off is with stupid people.

E.G. Stuck in traffic due to the temp lights by the Tesco express a couple of weeks ago a passenger gets out of his seat and says "We're running a bit late today aren't we, why? I replied "Look out of the bloody window, mate and take a wild guess"

Them: Can I have a taxi please?
Me: Where from?
T: Little Haywood.
M: Yes, in 10 minutes.
T: Oh, no, I've got to be at the station in 10 minutes. I'll miss my train. It's your fault.
M: Sorry, the helicopter is being serviced today.
Boss: Tony, I heard that! Stop telling them we have a helicopter!

Edit: I was going to start a blog detailing all the chuffwit idiot calls we have to deal with, but i abandoned it for 2 reasons:
1) my boss would get upset.
2) it would take about 6 hours a day, and i'd rather spend that time in the pub.
