Just moved to Brocton and been told there was a army training base in the chase nr Brocton. Anyone know where ?
Are there any maps ?

Have noticed alot of signs of man made structures & would love to know what they were.

If you drive up the chase road from Brocton Village Green, pass by Brocton Heights and the Quarry on your left you will come to a signpost left to Coppice Hill. Pass that for a few yards and you will come to a little track on your left leading to Freda's Grave. Carry on Chase Road for a half mileish and on your left is Dry Pits car park. Along the track after about 100 yards you will see some concrete on the left - this was the Wells at a short spur off Tackeroo railway. You will have already have walked over the track by the car park. If you walk right from your car after a hunded yards you will come to the embankments of the railway, then Glacier Boulder where you will see the foundations of the Water Reservoir Tower that supplied the trains.

There is a good little book about the First World War camps, Brocton Camp and Rugeley Camp, called "A Town for Four Winters" by C. J. and G. P. Whitehouse which I think is still available. The Visitors Centre certainly has leaflets, some of which are online -

There might be something on the Long & Winding Trail website which is good on most things to do with the First World War -

Brocton has gone up in the world since David Cameron moved out - rumours Tony Robinson moving in
