XL FM - New radio station for Staffordshire

When I'm out locally in the car I always listen to a local radio station mainly for the traffic bulletins they broadcast, the biggest problem is that to call in to report a traffic incident or accident or to update an existing incident you have to call a 0800 number:(

Now what idiot set up that arrangement?

What didn't he or she consider?

1. Most people carry only mobile telephones whilst out in their cars.

2. ALL mobile phone companies charge you to use a 0800 free phone number and you CANNOT use your 'free' minuets.

So I imagine that most drivers either wait until getting to where there is a land line to phone in by which time the incident could be all over or more people who could have diverted are now involved in the traffic back log.

Why don't they use a 'normal' 01785 or 01782 std number, my own theory is that a company receives some sort of bonus or pay back for having that 0800 number?

Please, please XL-FM if you have a traffic bulletin phone in make it a 01785 number. :)

Oh, that local radio station I listen to? SIGNAL 1

With most numbers of that type, the 'real' number can be obtained - try http://www.saynoto0870.com/ - and if you're using just the same few local stations, then it should be possible to maintain a list for, at least, most of them.

Publish it on here, as well.?

I haven't seen no mention of what frequency the new XL-FM will transmit on so are we to presume it will be the same as the old Stafford FM's 87.7 ?
