Ye Olde Rose and Crown

I am fairly easy to spot, bald, big hands, miserable face, and usually no more than a yard from the prettiest blonde in the bar

I have some African roots but I try not to chew on them in the public

I am not in the Basil League ala Coton Field Light Show Stalking Expert Dot Com

Having cocked this one up before I am reliable informed it is now nearing completion and my contact has snapped this to remind me of my previously previous statement

Word on the street is they're opening Friday 11th Nov.

Are forumites allowed to pre open or do we wait until Thursday?

I guess Basil has a pre opening invite?

Indeed, i've stretched my tentacles on this one, so far unfruitful. My old mate Gilbert will no doubt be there so i might usé his leverage.....

For purely journalistic reasons I had a few in the new Rose & Crown last night, between 6 and 10.

The new lay-out is interesting, the bar being in the middle of the building, seperating the front bar/lounge from the larger area at the back with tables etc. It's a good idea, the regulars can stay cozy in their section whilst pub-crawlers and weekend drinkers can occupy the larger bit.

They have moved the toilets upstairs, which opens up the back of the pub nicely and creates a bit more room for tables. However, this does mean you've got to go outside to go up to the toilets. The smoking area is quite big and sheltered, although not being a smoker I stayed in the warm

Very nice decor and wood furnishings, especially the tables and pieces on the walls. As it has no doubt just been finished there was an overwhelming smell of paint.

Three good ales on, the Joules IPA, blonde and Slumbering Monk. They have six hand-pulls in all, although only had three beers on yesterday. Lager (boo-hiss) looked to be Carling and Grolsch on tap, cider was Stowford Press.

It was a bit quiet for an opening night / first night, but there were still groups of people coming and going. I saw lots of local faces from local businesses in there, which was good.

I enjoyed it and will definitely be going back, hopefully to sample the food next time.
