Used to enjoy the owd trips up the a34 on the 101 Hanley-Stafford when i had to visit the relatives. You had some right local characters mind.

* The Chap who had a mask on in market square, never forget him wielding a stick round and me being pulled to safety by a relative and then being told he often used an excuse for being late for work that he was out all night fighting war planes???????????????

* The poor owd duck witht he trolley, that was sad that on every journey to the county town id see her round town or by the crem. I was younger then but even then knew it was really sad.

* Them Idiots who used to stand behind the goal at Rangers around the 94/96 seasond the tall one who always had a grey coat and bald and his mate who was smaller with a massive nose and always had a radio. Thet were easily in there 50s but acted miles younger. lol made me laugh anyway!

Hope you are all okay staffordians

Does anyone have any idea who she is? I see her all the time too, pushing a supermarket trolley wherever she goes. I think she uses it like a Zimmer frame.

The last time I saw her the contents of the trolley were mainly made up of bags of compost and loaves of bread.

1st one was Red (some called him Russian) Rob, great old character.

The old woman apparently lost her child when very young and she believes the trolley n contents are her child. She must be in her 90's now.

There's another thread where we remembered many of the old tramps n characters of Stafford, would be worth havin a look at, some great stories in it.

Oh yes, and welcome to the forum (nearly forgot my manners there).

Spooky ..... it was a link about Robert The Russian, late of County Road, that first led me to this site a long time ago. Mickyboy, I've heard similar stories about the "trolly woman" losing a child at birth .... sad. And as for Stafford having "a mob of punks", you can go back to 76/77, ahead of anything SOT had to offer at the time. So there.
Welcome !!

I was talking to a mate the other day and we were discussing some of the characters of the town. So, I thought I would revive this thread and see if any of you folks may know some of interest. Like Ken Bailey, he had a psycho wife Maureen who used to always go looking for him round the pubs and god help you if you got in her way. She died a few years ago now but what happened to Ken? Big Willie is another (I know what you're thinking but I couldn't tell you if it's true) I think it was litteraly because he was a big guy and he had enourmous hands. He used to minesweep in the Chains and nobody would say anything to him because he was so big and you couldn't understand what he was saying when he'd had a few. His wife was tiny and he was terrified of her. Last I heard I think he was working for a company called Cavanagh's but not sure. I don't know if they are a stafford company. Anyway what happened to these folk and does anyone have any other tales to tell.

Doxey/Castle Town where I had relatives wasnt short of a few either from What i can remember visiting there!

Not sure if this is classed as Stafford "Doxey" I always thought was it classed as a outside village. Certainly Castle Town is part of the Stafford though!

Forget the 101 I was brought up in stoke on trent have only been in stafford for 5 years now, stoke has that tendancy for strangers so to say but it is made up of six towns, personally it looks like stafford is heading for bigger things by removing houses and putting a car park for example
