Your political compass

this should be interesting..

http://www.politicalcompass.org

There's abundant evidence for the need of it. The old one-dimensional categories of 'right' and 'left', established for the seating arrangement of the French National Assembly of 1789, are overly simplistic for today's complex political landscape. For example, who are the 'conservatives' in today's Russia? Are they the unreconstructed Stalinists, or the reformers who have adopted the right-wing views of conservatives like Margaret Thatcher ?

On the standard left-right scale, how do you distinguish leftists like Stalin and Gandhi? It's not sufficient to say that Stalin was simply more left than Gandhi. There are fundamental political differences between them that the old categories on their own can't explain. Similarly, we generally describe social reactionaries as 'right-wingers', yet that leaves left-wing reactionaries like Robert Mugabe and Pol Pot off the hook.

That's about as much as we should tell you for now. After you've responded to the following propositions during the next 3-5 minutes, all will be explained. In each instance, you're asked to choose the response that best describes your feeling: Strongly Disagree, Disagree, Agree or Strongly Agree. At the end of the test, you'll be given the compass, with your own special position on it.
i always considered myself quite a righty, and although i have never voted in my life i was brought up in a tory household and would doubtless vote for them if i wasn't such an apathetic arse come polling day*.. however, this website seems to score me more in the region of ghandi (seriously)..

take the test, then right-click on your resulting graph and save it to your computer.. you can then click here to upload the picture and post it on the forum.. here's mine:

so, apparently i'm a leftie libertarian!?!? both of these shock me, as i automatically associate the terms "leftie" and "libertarian" with tofu-eating whining commies..

there are certain members of this forum who i would be very interested to see the outcome (shoes, lunar, monquey, sofa, etc.) so get answering!

* = 19/09/2010 edit: i voted for the first time ever this year, and it wasn't for the blues after all! for all the good it did lol..

interesting.. here is where they consider the parties in the UK:

20090514145505-enparties.gif

so comparing this chart to my own, i am almost the complete opposite end of spectrum from the conservative party, who i profess to support!

now, i don't claim to be au fais with party politics at all.. i am exactly the sort of voter that spin doctors love, and politically minded folk hate - i do absolutely no research, and just believe whatever i am fed by the media.. hence, presumably, why i considered myself in the tory camp..

now the food is coming from a different source, however, i am reconsidering this lol.. perhaps it's a good job that i don't vote? :v:

I'm just to the left of the Greens - about where the 'n' is.
communist spotted :teef:

seriously, why is no-one posting their graph :?: it's not hard! is it because you don't want people to see the exact result, or is it just that y'all can't be arsed?? lol

edit: shit, just realised that commies are top-left, not bottom-left.. carry on! lol

I can't post the graph as I'm on my phone but my numbers were
Economic left\right -4.12
Social libertarian\authoritarian -2.97

It looked very close to ghandi. Might do it again when I get home but I bet I'll answer slightly differently and alter it.

Seems were in roughly the same area.

Same here! Some of the questions I had to read a few times too, at first glance I strongly disagreed but after reading a few times I realised I agreed with the statement as such I just didn't agree with the sentiment behind it.
