Your Stafford "Wish List"

Stafford had three underpasses - two have been filled it, only the Waggon & Horses one is left 'functional'.
Was there one on the junction of Stone Rd/Holmcroft Rd?

I lived in Coventry & the only way to walk into the city centre was through underpasses - they are vile, full of pee & vagrants / druggies - No underpasses for Stafford!

The three that I am aware of were across Stone Road at North Avenue/Holmcroft Road, replaced with a lighted crossing - and the existing one across Greyfriars at the Waggon & Horses - and there was one across Lichfield Road, where the old folks' home is, replaced by the new traffic lights, a bit further into town.

I don't know of any others, unless we're counting the one at the Showground from the overspill car-park.

I'm glad they filled them in . They were always full of kids smoking weed and getting drunk. Stunk of p#ss.
parkside was the best one. Typical hang out spot from my younger days ;)

There was. When I was 5 or 6 years of age I walked home from the former Tillington Manor Primary School to my parents house on the Stone Road. Thankfully for me, and my parents, there was an underpass which I used. To do this day I still don't know why I decided to walk home!

Stafford will still be full of pee, druggies and other undesirables it's just now they are more spread out. It would be much easier to send the black maria around to an underpass and get them all in one go ? :better:

I'd love the old St. Georges building to be put back exactly as it was, and then move all the patients back in there.

One toothbrush for the whole ward?

Tea milk and sugar all poured into a giant kettle and served to everyone?

Sounds like a boutique hotel idea now

We dunna do that now Mr Marwood, there's at least 2 brushes to go round these days.

Funny enough tho, I went a funeral last week, the milk was in with the tea. Pigging minging it were n all. I have a teaspoonfull of milk at the most. Not a pint at a time.

Maccy Dees clad in Oak to look like the High House.

Morrisons car park to be converted to a skating rink, winters only.

The underground system to be reopened.

Why all the negative comments? Stafford is just perfect as it is, a living tribute to decades of careful planning.

Just reading on another thread that someone thinks that Stafford really NEEDS a Burger King instead another supermarket, or Morrisons specifically. Each to their own. (Although I do prefer BK to Mcdonalds)
Although burger king is my favourite of all the fast food joints, i was just kidding about stafford needing one above anything else.

I would like to see a venue like the carling academy open up where half decent bands would play. Would probably never work but at least id have to stop travelling to birmingham or manchester to see some decent bands.

Food related again but id love a decent steakhouse and i mean a decent one like the one in manchester forget the name, where you choose from a huge list.

Id also like the dirty bastard dog owners to pick their dogs shit up off the pavement in the rowley bank area because my 4 year old has to weave all over the place on his little scooter. Better still make them eat it cus thats what id like to do if i ever catch any of the foul bastards.

That is all.

Before your time, I'm fairly sure - I would guess at around 1990-ish.

The Express and Star mentioned that it was to be filled in in 2010?
http://www.expressandstar.com/news/2010/04/02/eyesore-subway-to-close/

Also, it was mentioned on here by Mr X around that time, too?

Or have I got this completely wrong?
Blimey!

Is that after the Lichfield Road one was filled in, then?

I'll admit that I never ventured into the Northern one - I did use the Southern one on occasion, but the lack of steps on one side was tedious - and dangerous in the winter.

The central one is still available....
