You want the Highway code on a sign?

Wow

There are painted arrows indicating lanes merge

What's the matter with people?

The second lane has been extended for a reason. To be used

The polite and gentle wait with indicator activated beats aggressive tin crumple on 8 out 10 occasions

Too many sheeps

Yes I always use it to the annoyance of the near side lane who then accuse me of cutting them up ffs give way to the right !

Why cant we have some shared lanes - so maybe using bus lanes at key times for cars with multiple passengers
Erm, because we don't have any bus lanes.

Well i suppose we have, what, three?
Here, here, and here off the top of my head - none of which would make any difference whatsoever in the grander scheme of things.

Other than that, cool idea.

Northbound on Bridge Street is also effectively a bus lane, I think, although, that's a sort of extension of the Lichfield Road one, I suppose..

I thought you were suggesting making the river one way - which, of course, it already is, if you were to stop rowing and if we still had rowing boats for hire at the Baths and the New Inn.

It always was one, way Frank Thorley, landlord of the New inn, would only allow you to row up stream, and it cost a shilling for a hours hire.

The council spend over a million pounds on a foot bridge inking baswich and tixall road that no one ever uses !!!!!!

There's a counter on the bridge that counts the number of people who have been across it. When I go across it at lunchtime it reads around 200 usually, even higher on a sunny day.

The council did not spend local tax payers money on that bridge, it was money provided by central government for green improvements. If it hadn't been spent on that bridge then it would have gone to another town instead. So be thankful it improves the lives of local people. It allows people living on Tixall Road to easy get to the canal to walk their dogs or just walk themselves.

Why do cyclists use the road when there's the cycle path for them to use on the path, thus holding up traffic even more??

They're only suitable for some bikes due to the bumpy kerbs and there's supposedly a 15mph limit which is easily exceeded on a racing bike. They're not mandatory and if you're travelling a long distance then leaving and joining the lanes is a PITA.

It wouldn't, but removing the bus lane at Chell Road to make it 2 lanes going towards the station would massively reduce the number of incidents of road rage that occur due to it going from 2 lanes to 1 lane. The number of t*ssers who fly past all the staitonary traffic and then demand to get let in drives me nuts! And nope, I never let any in :D
So is the outside lane just for show then?

A lot of cycle paths* aren't 'fit for purpose', as we seem to say a lot these days - they have multiple obstructions, often make it much harder to pass junctions, the surfaces are often very poor, vegetation often grows out into them (which can be entertaining in the dark), the routes are often not of much use for the intended journeys, etc, etc.

Some of them are of some use, but one does get the feeling that it's largely a box-ticking exercise.

*This applies much more in urban areas, some rural routes are OK, but some of those are just pictures of a bicycle on a sign at the side of a country lane, which seems a little bit pretentious - such as here.

Where is the counter located @gilesjuk ?

At the end of the bridge where it joins the Tixall road is a sign post with the counter on it:

I walk across it regularly but never seen anyone else on it !!

@Steve_b Restricted in what way?
Town centre traffic management (SBC Transport Stratagy 2013 - 2031)
Traffic management measures within the town are proposed to discourage through traffic on Eastgate Street and reduce the impact of traffic generated by the Riverway and Kingsmead retail developments. In the longer term, the delivery of the Western Access Route will provide the opportunity to downgrade the A518 along Chell Road, Victoria Road and Station Road. As a result, the pedestrian environment, public realm and bus interchange facilities will be enhanced on Chell Road.

But then again, Carole, some people may just not care to interact with bullies who
1).quite obviously bear grudges themselves.
2)Or with the insufferably smug.
3) Or with the tediously and pointlessly argumentative.
4) Or with those who think it's clever to attempt to cause distress by being bitchy to or about people about whom they know sweet FA.
5) Expression of opinion is one thing and is generally to be encouraged.
6)But it's always useful to know when to STFA.
7)Leave her alone.
8)Mirrors are available.

1) I don't bear grudges. I say what I want to. I am happy to argue the toss on one thread and then support and "like" that person on another subject. Can you say the same?

2) Yes, I give you that point. I can be insufferably smug sometimes. I don't mean to be. I am working on it.

3) I like a good debate. I like to get to the point of things. I am a dog with a bone. Is it pointless? Yes sometimes. Is it tedious? Yes sometimes.

4) No I would never cause distress by being bitchy. I engage in debate. I ask pertinent questions. I don't swear or get personal. I don't think that you can say the same @Maryland

5) Yes it is. The very person that you were attempting to defend actually likes to debate and has continued to debate with me. Your corncern appears to be unfounded.

6) How to know when to...(in your words..STFU). The third word is a vulgar swear word which I wont use. So you mean "how to know when to be quiet? I don't always, I do tend to go on sometimes, but I can sense a mood. I think that you misjudged this one.

7) She doesn't want to be left alone, She told me. We are very cool with the exchanges.

8) Yes they are. Go look in one.

By the way, if you find me so annoying then click on the link and "IGNORE ME"

Save yourself the stress.
