Zanzibar is dead!

That's what I was thinking - but I think they're banking on the new car park facilities in town to accommodate this. It's a crap plan anyway - it should just stay as a club! I hope someone builds a new club, Love2Love is just too small.

Luminar Leisure who were interested in Zanzibar said they're just hoping to buy back Chicago Rock / Love2Love instead and turn it into Liquid & Envy club.

The current building would probably be demolished.

I had to / had no choice but to enjoy it seeing as i worked there :D

It wasn't the best but what people fail to realise is that now Zanzi has gone less students are going out in Stafford which is bad for everyone...

Ah fair play! There was fundamentally nothing wrong with Zanzibar its just that too many cretins chose to go there and if I'm honest the music wasn't to my personal taste.

Yeah the music was wank - before head office suprised us and pulled the plug we were gonna trial out turning it into an indie club with live guitar hero battles on the student night but alas it never happened.

Wow thats cheap! Suprised there isn't a queue of developers jumping on that one. Surely there is profit to be made there by someone who knows what they're doing?

Is that right, says upstairs has the same capacity as downstairs? Also says 'Smoking solution', does that mean they let you go outside?

I assume that is an old photo.... or else they have binned off the curry house next door and build a business centre in the last week???

I laughed at the smoking bit too.... its basically the raised area out front right next to the pavement. Ha ha

No, before they closed they built a new smoking area similar to the outside area of Casa.

I didn't realise the building was no new as well, I always assumed it was early 80's not early 90's.

"Zanzibar is dead"

result! :bravo:

I think it was a total blight on the town , hopefully we wont have all sort s of ne'er do wells coming to the town from other places and ruining the place now.. ok very "Victor Meldrew" I know but when all said and done the place was a real shed . Now of course when it was the Colloseum of course it was great !

then it got burned down didnt it !

Did they ever catch who did that ? Or was it really just an "accident/insurance job" ?

It was the colosseum again after it got rebuilt, became Zanzibar in late 2000.

As for the fire, I don't know for definate but as I knew a lot of the staff at the time its probably true. The insurance hadn't been upped to reflect the refurb, they lost loads. It started in one of the flats upstairs, either an electrical fire or a fag. We think it was a fag in the ashtray TBH. Could be why they didn't add the flats again when rebuilding.

Crikey I didn't realise that. I'm clearly too much of a young'en to remember these events! Evidently your mum did get out, she fed me copious amounts of pizza last month

I hope they will make it into a venue which doesn't just attract the chav-scum that usually populates the place. I wonder if anyone has checked the stats to see if there has been a reduction in the spread of STDs/teenage pregnancies since the place closed down
