According to a lengthy letter in this weeks Newsletter

our MP said:
I have raised the recruitment situation with the DoH on several occasions, including directly with the minister Simon Burns MP over the weekend and on Monday, and I will continue to do so. Mr. Burns told me of the work which the SHA cluster continues to do to help Stafford to try to recruit staff.
...
I will continue to work with the hospital and its staff, DoH, GPs and local patient groups to ensure that we have an A&E and other health services which meet the needs of local *MPs in need of re-election.
(*ok i made the last bit up - "which meet the needs of local people".)

Of whatever colour, i think we all wish his work is rewarded.

How much will it cost to put the opening hours on all the Hospital A&E signs around the town, to avoid outsiders being mislead at night? Or should we just cover them all up, ready for when it's gone all together?

It is not without some irony that Cure The NHS campaigners have done so well campaigning that now no one wants to work at the hospital therefore reducing the level of service.

I suppose you could argue that a hospital open for less hours might actually offer a better quality of service... So they might have met their aims there...

Also, I fear this will be the beginning of the end for Stafford Hospital. It will become a "community hospital" - to quote wikipedia (sorry):

Community Hospital" is not a statutory phrase but it is used in relation to hospitals which have been described as "a local hospital, unit or centre providing an appropriate range and format of accessible health care facilities and resources" [1]. These hospitals are typically small, using either purpose-built new premises or smaller general hospitals which have been retained to provide non-emergency services after general hospital services have been transferred to more centralised facilities; in some cases the services include in-patient care.

I suspect A&E will close for good within 2 years.

A temporary A&E doesn't seem to be a viable proposition and I fear that full closure is the easiest solution - for those in charge, anyway.

There is an on-line petition - http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/save-stafford-hospital.html - if somebody hasn't pointed that out already.

Guess who said on TV tonight that it was good they were closing AE at night as it was putting patient safety first. ( I'm not sure they were the exact words, certainly the sentiment)

So what is being rushed to Wolverhampton or Stoke ? Home goal to Cure NHS

That particular bell hasn't been rung since August 14th, 2009.

For what its worth I think a walk in centre will be the outcome similar to the system at St Cross in Warks
The point being made by the hspital is they cannot attract consultants so there is no reason a lower level of service cannot be provided
But like St Cross no ambulances will be accepted after 10pm

unbelivable!!! I have never heard of anything like this - ever!! Its shocking and people will die if there is no a&e, 20 miles to the nearest - which in turn is going to put a strain on that hospital!!!

There have been a couple of occaisions where i've had to go to A&E after 10pm, none of those times have warranted an ambulance but have need more attention than the emergency Dr. We don't drive and have had to call a taxi it's not that cheap to Stafford so i'm faced with an absolute fortune in taxi fares or not being able to afford to go. I wonder if those who say it is safer to close have thought of that?

The one thing which really concerns me is the extra distance the ambulances will need to travel, which means it will take more time to get those vehicles back available on their standby points. How often do you see ambulances on blue lights heading down the A34 back towards Cannock after dropping off at Stafford. People are either going to have to wait longer for ambulance transport or West Mids Ambo are going to have to find budget to increase their resources.

All Very concerning.....

Thres a petition going around, to stop closure of the hospital, only 851 signitures out of a population of 63681 in stafford (2001 census). So the rest dont care? Shocking!!

Council leader said Stafford Hospital covers a poulation of 300,000.

If they wanted AE consultants then offer more than the going rate. Money always talks?

I know the hospital has a reputation but other hospitals also have reputations and do not close AE.

Could it be on the agenda to be run by a private company.

In my view, Julie Bailey has caused far more damage than the hospital ever caused itself. The woman has a hell of a lot to answer for. There are ways to solve problems, her way isn't one of them.

Is there an online version? Or, where is the paper version?
