In that case, if you but knew it, you almost certainly met my very lovely dad! He was one of those involved in getting the area turned into a nature reserve as part of work that was done by Severn Trent (I think) to try to prevent the town flooding. From then on, he did all the working parties to build things, dredge things and paint things. When he wasn't building, dredging or painting, he was down there watching the birds and inwardly tutting at the dog walkers.I painted the bird-hide many years ago and left a particularly good graffito uncovered, as it seemed a shame to paint over it. There was some criticism of that decision, but there was very little additional graffiti for some months afterwards..
