Ben - Thanks for a great contribution towards the thread! I have had a walk out just around my road this morning and collected the "usual" carrier bag of litter. I can easily without having to really try fill a carrier bag every single day just from my road which probably has about 30 houses - makes you think how many hundreds of bin liner fulls there is out there around the town altogether.
Do you have a litter pick in your area organised? If so let me know as I'd like to get involved
Something I saw on the news recently (I think it was in Birmingham but I could be wrong) was a scheme by council street cleaners and volunteer litter pickers who arranged a clear up of the streets and then rather than disposing of the hundreds of bags of rubbish straight away they piled them up for a day or so in the main square so that people had to look at them and be rightly disgusted by the sight of so much lack of care for the local environment. Perhaps something that could be done in Stafford as an alternative method of litter awareness? Perhaps a big collection and then a pile up for a day or so in the Market Square right outside the lovely Shirehall...? In this Country we concentrate far too much on "out of sight, out of mind" waste management - let people look at, walk around and shop amongst all the rubbish for a bit - that should get people rightly vexed about what is all to often an ignored issue
Love it.With regard to piling up rubbish. This is my next step with KFC if they do not start taking the issue of litter at there restuarant seriously. I have now started seperating all KFC litter that I and others are collecting in readiness to return it to them if they do not start cooperating.
Hi Franklin
Thankyou for your nice comment. As of yet, I havent arranged any formal litter picks within Forebridge. I merely find the likeminded individuals and then issue them with the litter pickers to litter pick as and when they are able. However I have recently been in contact with Cllr Tom Harris regarging organising a BIG TIDY UP of Stafford, something on the lines of what you were suggesting and then making some kind of statement with the litter. I definetly believe something like this is needed to make those inconsiderate individuals think twice before dropping litter. Cllr Harris has a lot of experience of organising litter picks within Forebridge, so this is something he is looking into.
Since my last post, I have been in contact with Friends of the Earth and informed them of what we were trying to do here in Forebridge and also that I had the files, and all the relevant information from KEEP STONE TIDY webmaster to setup an almost identical website for Stafford to help spread the word. He responded very positively and has copied the Stafford Co-ordinator in so hopefully through that group we will be able to attract even more volunteers. With regard to the website, he is going to look into attaching a KEEP STAFFORD TIDY website to Stafford Friends of the Earth. However this has not been confirmed yet.

Thanks Ben
Corporation Street/Tithe Barn/Cambridge Street area has a lot of litter in the gutters this year. It was pretty clean in previous years.
I think StreetScene needs to do a proper road sweeper job of this area - if only people could move their cars out of the way for a day. Although I do keep the footpath and road gutter clear outside of my house anyway.
Or better still, get your road swept.I have followed the instructions here http://www.staffordbc.gov.uk/streetscene---frequently-asked-questions#roads-swept to inform Stafford BC about the amount of litter in my road. Hope I get a response!
They would need to employ specially trained mongooses to sweep his road - it is a veritable sea of parked cars..Or better still, get your road swept.
Kyoto's suggestion seems feasible. Just requires some organisation. They would need to employ specially trained mongooses to sweep his road - it is a veritable sea of parked cars..
And a modicum of co-operation, unfortunately. I know somebody in this sort of position on Corporation Street - Street Scene put notices through letter-boxes in response to her request, asking for the road to be clear for the annual fallen leaf removal campaign. Just a couple of hours access was required. There was so little 'community response' that they could get at hardly any of it....Kyoto's suggestion seems feasible. Just requires some organisation.
Indeed.Hmmm...bears out my other post on Totnes thread I fancy..
Thankyou Franklin, I may take you up on that offer and please feel free to invite me to any litter picks that are arranged in Littleworth.
In response to 1JKz - What I and others are proposing is nothing to onerous. We are merely inviting likeminded individuals, who care about the community in which they live and therefore want to keep it clean to litter pick when they are able to do so. In Forebridge, the members of the group take responsibilty of there streets or section of street and litter pick as and when they can. This is normally twice a week. A few of us who are more mobile and have more time to spare look after slightly larger areas. Again this is not a rigid arrangement, we merely take a carrier bag with us when we walk through the streets of Forebridge to the town centre. This only adds a few minutes extra to our journey and improves the area. Through this regular litter picking we are seeing a noticable difference and the number of volunteers are increasing.
In fact today I have recieved an email from Anita Hobbs a borough councillor for the neighbouring ward of Rowley about introducing a similar scheme there...... so who knows Franklin maybe one day we will get a spotless Stafford.
I agree with everything Franklin has said above which is why i implemented this scheme in my local area.
You smooth operator - i bet you say that to all the girls.
