As a kid I remember it being terrible - always under cooked and nasty!

But then around 2004 it went a bit gourmet and would make you wait 20mins but promised the best chips around - and they were good!

But cant say I've been in a while and no clue what happened to it (sorry not very helpful :) )

The current occupiers were planning to open an off licence there, subject to planning. They did put in the application but I presume this is now not going to happen now it is up for auction.

Oh deer - they did a mighty fine potato fritter..

Fairly sure someone will want to buy it though, given it's location?

The full story is that the owners live in Derbyshire. In the last few months, they have started a new Fish & Chip shop local to them and were hoping to sell the Little Fawn as ongoing food business. Since they opened the Derbyshire shop, their son has been running the place 7 days a week.

A buyer was lined up and even went in to talk to the existing staff about shift patterns etc, but for a reason I don't know, the purchase fell through. As it wasn't viable for the owners son to continue running the business and they had no-one able to deal with the day to day running (such as rotas, bills, staff pay etc.), they have decided to close it until a new purchaser can be found.

Thank you all for your responses, it really is a shame!

This was the best chippy for miles and we already miss it. Someone should take up the challenge of opening another place like this as there is a need in Stafford for a decent sit down chippy - makes a lovely change to the numerous asian outlets, good as they are.
