Out with the old and in with the new......

A bit of a freegle / freecycle / giveaways thread, on which I can start the ball rolling.

Mrs WMR bought me a new cordless drill driver and it seems a shame to throw away my old one. It is about 2 years old and is an 18v one with hammer action. Comes with 2 batteries and charger, BUT the batteries no longer hold a charge so you have to plug one in a good hour before you need to use it. Other than that though it still works so it's a shame to just skip it.

Any use to anyone?

EDIT:- Private messages might be better for responses to any posts as it allows the giver to choose someone from replies received rather than feeling obliged to give it to the first muppet to say "Ill have it" with no manners ;)

Drill above already offered to someone who is not only a forum frequenter AND existing customer, but also a very polite requester.
Sorry to anyone else who may have been interested

I used to use freegle (previously freecycle) quite a lot, but there seemed to become more and more folks who would just email saying "I'll have it", "When can i get it", or even "I'd have it but youd have to bring it to me". The word please started to disappear and I found folk got ruder and ruder so I just don't bother on there now.
I'd still rather give something away that is useable if somebody wants it, as it's better than it going into landfill. Although when people are rude it makes you wanna dump your actual "unusable crap" all over their garden! ;)

I stopped using it when it was freecycle, for very similar reasons.

I got quite a few really abusive emails off people who thought it was their right to have an item. I even got threatened.

It's a shame really because I've got some stuff I don't want or need that seems a crime to throw out and I can't face doing a car boot mainly because getting up at stupid o'clock on a Sunday to get met by a plague of rabid locusts before you open a car door isn't quite my thing.

I also used free cycle once . And the person who collected the item ( nearly brand new kids football boots ) was so rude , they practically grabbed the bag and jumed in the car , no thank you whatsoever ever , so I tend to give to Katherine house now

I know someone who uses Freegle all the time. He saves it all up till he has enough to go and do a car boot up the common. House is full of stuff.

Similar experiences, plus the same folk seemed to request everything giving nobody else a chance. After several items were requested by one regular person and never collected we stopped offering stuff, as we were sure most were just doing it to sell on.

If he's taking stuff off people and not telling them this is his plan, then he's breaking freegle rules. Whilst they don't totally object to collecting stuff to sell, they do state that you should only collect items for your own use unless otherwise stated.

This was another reason I stopped freegling. Same people. Profiteers.

On this forum I've just allocated my old drill to someone that I know needs one. That's what the whole freegle thing is about. If I were to give it away to someone to make a profit on then I might aswell have sold it myself.

I saw one car boot with 3 items I had given him in a 4 month period. He was selling one item telling people it was fully working (it wasn't) and that he had paid £80 for it new. When I reminded him that it doesn't work properly and that I had given it to him he didnt know where to put his face! I then proceeded to make a scene about his fraudulent use of a local freecycling group for personal profit and left him with every stall around him glaring. I should imagine he wanted to shrivel away into his boot until everyone had cleared off. :D

It is often possible to replace the cells, if you can get the case open. 18V ones are often C-size. You might not even have to replace them all..

And that was the last time I ever had anything off WMR :P

Only joking!
