aaaaaaaaaaaaaand, we're back!

Sorry it took so long; we had few - ahem - hiccoughs to deal with!

Unfortunately, I can't hang around now to explain all of the new features, so I'll just leave it with you for now and hope that nothing breaks.

If anyone notices anything that they think needs changing, please let me know. :)

If you have not yet signed-up to be a member, please do so! It doesn't cost anything, nothing scary happens - it just means you can reply to any of the messages you see here and get stuck in and have your say on whatever you like!

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
Is this really how it should look???? I have a 27" iMac and use a wide browser window. This is a screenshot and it looks AWFUL!

I'm having problems getting the 'side bar' (my lovely piccy, whose online, last 6 threads) to load, it no longer appears on the opening page I have to click the sidebar button - but its only working randomly.

Also, I find when I click on a thread I am taken to the very first message, not the newest....

Hope this helps...

'Newest Threads' thing might be a bit jiggered.
Yes, new posts aren't showing up...
Are you sure? It seems OK to me. :hmm:

Bear in mind that it is newest threads, not latest posts. I thought it would draw people's attention to the latest topics raised/questions that people have, as opposed to just showing the latest posts which tend to always be in the same threads.

If you want to see the newest posts, simply click New Posts at the top of the forum (on the navigation bar). :)

The sidebar will only display if your screen is big enough. If you are on a mobile phone, or if you reduced the horizontal size of your browser on your computer, the sidebar will move to the bottom of the forum list (this is so that mobile users don't have to scroll down loads just to get past the sidebar in order to get to the main forum content).

If you are using Opera Mini mobile browser, it is probably that that is causing the problem. If anyone else is having the above problem, please let me know. If not and it's just you, littleme, I suspect that it's something I can't help with, I'm afraid. :(

This is probably because of the upgrade - it may have 'forgotten' the "last post viewed" for some people, so will take you to the first post of a thread. This should start working again from now (e.g. when you click on this thread, it should take you to the newest post). If not, please let me know.

If anyone else is having this problem after a few hours, please let me know.

The new look is very wide with around 12 inches of white space running straight down the middle separating the forums from the latest posts.

See, this is why I need feedback from all our lovely members! People work in such different ways, on different platforms, that I can't possibly cover them all while doing my own testing. :)

I too have an iMac, @bigbluewolf, so developed this new look on the same size screen! However, I never have my browser maximised, preferring instead to have it set to a more "typical" size so that I can see other apps in the background. I didn't think about people with ultrawide displays who might like to have things full size.

I can set a "max-width" if you like, so that it only extends so far, regardless of one's browser width. Would this be the preferred option for others?

I'm not sure what you mean. :hmm:

I am currently viewing this on a MacBook Air, an iPad, and iPhone, and an iMac, and I don't see 12" of white space anywhere. Could you post a screenshot, please?

Little tip: you can now drag & drop an image into the message box to upload it. :)

Some new features:

You can tag users with the @ symbol. So if I wanted to say hello to @Gramaisc, I could do just that, and he should get a notification to say he has been mentioned. :)

Also, something that you have all been crying out for: You are now free to edit your messages regardless of time limit! The Forum will remember the history of the post, so if you make an edit and I need to refer to the original for whatever reason, I should be able to (no other members will be able to see the history)

This is how it looks right now on my phones normal browser, people have commented in this thread & the mundane facts thread, but they are not showing up...is this how its supposed to be - only new threads, not newest replies?

Are you referring to the Newest Threads box in the sidebar? If so, yes, that is correct. It is displaying the newest threads, not the newest posts/replies. As I say, I did this because it would help to draw attention to any new questions that people posted or topics that they wished to discuss. New posts can be viewed by simply clicking the New Posts link at the very top, in the navbar (navigation bar). :)

Don't forget to check out the Members link in the navbar at the top of The Forum. It has some nice new options, such as showing you has made the most posts, who the newest members are, etc. :)

Ahhh I see now :) (that's the bit at the bottom of the page under the sidebar tab) Sorry for being such a pain!

Just to let you know that this works much better on my phones browser, where as lots of things don't show up/work using Opera. SKILL POINTS FOR ADMIN PLEASE!

Something else you have all been asking for: Sans-serif fonts! You should now be able to choose between standard fancy serif fonts, or sans-serif, by clicking the little cog at the very bottom-left of The Forum. :)
