... hopefully :hmm: miss the larger Island where Tokyo is ?
Looks very much like it - predictions can be wrong, of course, but mainland looks about as safe as could be.
Goes 'up' the map next week to Ibaraki , then' down ' to Osaka and Kobe , before going back 'up' to Tokyo.
Haven't seen that, but cyclones lose A LOT of energy when they hit land - it is unlikely to cause anywhere near as much damage upon return.

Your boy might lose his umbrella though. And his giant minion balloon.

He'll be OK - that storm is like there being some weather in Morocco and us being here - and nobody does disasters better than the Japanese.

He knew about it all along apparently, and reckons he'll be safe as it's due to hit the south western islands ,and he should be alright where he is. Fingers crossed he's right.(He's studying that sort of thing in uni for his Geography BSC , so maybe a bit of first hand experience.. )

It's son going 'up' 'down' & then 'up' then map again, not the Typhoon (hopefully )

He's been to Tokyo Disneyland today to meet another of his Japanese friends ( I'm wondering if he's remembered his disney themed fancy dress costume he's got to take on his uni trip ..... although don't suppose tthat will be on his mind in the company of an attract female ;) )

Quite educational for me this trip. I'm learning more about places around the world in these last 2 days than my boring old geography teachers ever taught me !

Bought my first ever vacuum storage bags and had fun all night shrinking everything in sight.

Slight tangent... If you're ever in the market for something along the same lines but for travel, Eagle Creek Compressions Sacs are amazing. They don't use a vacuum cleaner, instead you roll the bag to squeeze out the air. I can travel for >1 week at a time with just a backpack thanks to them. Normally available on Amazon UK.

Thanks, those are a good idea.
I was thinking these vacuum bags would be useful for packing my suitcase, but then thought of trying to squash it all back in the other end without a hoover on hand

Vacuum packed all sons towels , pillows, bedding and massive double 50 tog duvet into them as well, ready to take back down to his flat for uni. Got visions of the seals going on them down the motorway , and it all springing back up inside the car. The Only Fools and Horses Inflatable Dolls episode came to mind ....

In general, in Japan, yes.

Watch what the locals do and do that.

He's getting ready to catch a train:hmm: ..... At least he can speak the language quite well now and understand a lot of it if he has to follow instructions. He hasn't spoken a word of english except for checking into his hotel, and all the signs are in Japanese only, so lucky he's got pretty fluent in it !

If you see any TV reports fromShinjuku , Tokyo he's the one sticking out in the crowd ,being the only white face around and about 2 foot taller than everyone else . Getting quite a bit of attention , and he's says it's amusing when they talk about him and then find out he can understand what they are saying :D

Still not got that bloody rail-pass delivered yet
