So far so good, I've gone with Mark Redler - although did ask for a call back 2 days ago and not had it...so maybe cracks starting to appear....

Based on current experience, I would highly recommend anyone NOT to use Mark Redler.... It's been a very, very poor experience so far. Will update add the process goes on and hopefully things change for the better, but I'm not hopeful.

I am happy to offer recommendations in what young people call a PM

I resisted commenting on this particular firm as things were apparently going well, however.... a neighbour's best friend's dog walker's uncle's colleague's cousin...said ....

they would only communicate by paper letter... to which I guffawed

Mark Redler - Shelly Withington for conveyance services.

We've used her twice now and she's great, we can't fault her for a thing and she keeps you informed which is valuable in these circumstances.

I can only speak as I find but our converyencing solicitor at Mark Redler (Shelly Withington) was always very easy to get hold of and very good at keeping in touch and getting back to us for two purchases, correspondence was via phone and email with postal copies always following.

We had an issue with planning and land usage (good old Stafford Borough Council) a few months after purchasing, she was brilliant and dealt with it quickly and efficiently and it was resolved with no further charge.

Unfortunately Shelly has now retired..... could the rubbish service I am receiving from Mark Redler now be linked to this....? Possibly.

so as a first time buyer, I've asked to advise of who the solicitors are I've instructed to handle the house purchase. Two things, how does one instruct a solicitor, and obviously varying views on local firms, has anyone used a national firm i.e. not based in Stafford?

Quite often your mortgage company has a list of approved solicitors. I've used local and national. The national firm were for a remortgage where things are pretty simple, you just have to sign the contract and it's done. With a purchase you need to go through searches and surveys etc so being able to have a face to face appointment with your conveyancer is preferable.
